A sunday morning nightmare |
|
We have discussed Bushit seeking a 3rd term, Clinton becoming someone's VP....BUT what we have NOT discussed is
Bushit & Chaney REVERSING their positions and NOW the 12/22nd amendment gets challenged to SCOTUS
My BEST argument against this happening (barring the obvious)
This is the argument and until someone challenges to SCOTUS we will never know whom is right. Personally I lean to an ineligibility. IF the future POTUS( Chaney) would die and the VP was ineligible it would be a MAJOR disruption to continuity of government. The line of succession is such that the Speaker of the House WOULD BECOME POTUS. Speaker is very much a political appointment. The Speaker does not necessarily have the experience to be POTUS ( and was elected by ONE State). That's why so few Senators ever become POTUS.

we were talking about 2008 a 3rd term. With all the conversation over the 22nd I thoought wouldn't it be interesting if they REVERSED positions and Chaney ran for President with Bushit as his VP.

4. Why in the world would bush run as VP when he already has been |
|
in the corner office, err oval office
In many ways an ex president has more influence out of office then in office simply because he is not running for office.
Isn't that the whole BFEE theory, bush elder pulling the international strings for junior to run the world???

First line in 22nd amendment No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once end quote...

12. The amendement says ELECTED |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 06:40 PM by never_get_over_it
so what is stopping a former President from running for VP - because technically he/she is not being elected to the Presidency. Seems to me that if a former President ran for VP and something happened to the President than the VP could serve out that term but not run for reelection to the Presidency.
Hmmm I'm going to have to go see what the Constitution say in regards to the VP....
Of course as a practical matter I think it would be stupid for a former President to run for VP - but I'm asking technically since the amendment says ahall not be ELECTED and not shall not SERVE
on edit:
maybe the catch is the President and VP run on the same ticket and not separately....opinions?

9. The mantra should be, "anything is possible with this Adminstration". |
|
And I don't mean that in the positive sense.
I wouldnt put is past some of them. Cheney would probably like it, however Im not so sure Bush would relish continuing being the punching bag for Cheney and Rumsfeld.

11. Amendments to the consitution cannot be challenged in court |
|
Sorry, but the constitution is the law of the land and is written in stone unless amended.
The only way to change the 22nd amendment is to repeal it via the amendment process.
