Don't complain about ANSWER - organize your own demonstration |
|
People have been complaining about ANSWER for years. If all the people who complain about ANSWER got together and organized their own demonstation, the importance of ANSWER would have shrunk to nothing. I am probably more familiar with ANSWER then some people here. It's hard to estimate their numbers, but they probably only have a few hundred people across the country, and probably only a few dozen who do a lot of work. So on the one hand we have a few dozen people who work hard and have the initiative to plan and do a demonstration, and on the other hand we have thousands (tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands?) who complain about ANSWER.
I'm tired of hearing people complain about ANSWER and do nothing. If you don't like ANSWER's demonstrations, everyone complaining should get off their behinds, get together and organize their own demonstrations! ANSWER only has a few dozen people who do most of the work. The only way the whole half of the country that is progressive/Democrat/liberal/left-wing/whatever is being "held hostage" at these demonstrations by a few dozen ANSWER people is by massive laziness on behalf of the complainers! I don't want to hear any more complaints about ANSWER without hearing a solution! And the solution is obvious - people who don't like ANSWER organizing their own demonstrations.
The main organization that might do this is UFPJ, United for Peace and Justice. The problem with UFPJ is too many people in it are people whose only concern is the Democrats winning the next election. If even that, DLC and DINO types have too much sway over UFPJ. When was the last time UFPJ called a demonstration that was explictly against the war in Iraq? I can't even remember, but it was a long time ago.

1. I like it when people here say |
|
"The Reason I don't Protest is because of ANSWER". The people who protested yesterday had nothing to do with ANSWER and did not attend ANSWERs protest, they attended an PEACE protest.

and Im sorry, but the only images and PR that were fed to the US public via TV yesterday were the ANSWER free Mumia speakers. Bad PR.

3. But I'd have to get off my ass and do something |
|
I'd rather just stay at home and type deprecating remarks about people who are busting their ass to make the world a better place, because they're not doing it to my satisfaction.

4. Actually, I think the fact that ANSWER |
|
has organized big protests is great! I think that the average Joe looks to the numbers of people at protests and that's about it. I bet that tomorrow when I go to work that that is the only thing my coworkers will know about.
Like others, I protest locally. I have no problem with my PEACE NOW sign being beside those of my Sufi Sister's FREE MUMIA.
