Bill Nye the Science Guy on Larry King
It's a good thing CNN is making sure the most important figures that shape our world are on their channel.

2. Nye has been a stand-up guy...
...for a decade, fighting in Congress and the media for real science, real science education and its funding, warning of global warming, attacking creationism, etc. Seen him on CSPAN doing committee testifying, among other events.

On edit: I was educated in a fundy school and missed out on real science, so Bill Nye fascinated me.

He's on the side of science and truth.

I'm a HS physics teacher and the students love him (although they hate to admit that). He has done so much for making students wake-up and enjoy science. He's smart. Funny. Makes science entertaining so that you learn without really realizing it. He's awesome.

I know he must be a demy. Everyone who knows science and cares for the environment voted against Bush and will continue to do so.

On-edit: Eventhough Bill isn't on TV as much these days, he is still very much a part of many science classrooms around the country, that is what videos and DVD are for. He continues to come out with new products and continues to revamp his programs. See:

14. I saw him on CNN , IIRC, awhile ago, arguing in favor of, uh, well....
SCIENCE! the discussion was about Darwinism vs. superstition, and he was quite adamant about the fact that evolution is established knowledge, whereas creationism is pablum

he was getting PO'd with the smug jackass who was arguing in favor of ID.

he basically told the guy that his entire position boiled down to his assertion that the absence of the existence of complete, seamless proof of evolution was PROOF of divine intervention

18. At least Bill Nye is a scientist...
... and therefore a major step up from the woo-woos that King usually has, e.g., Sylvia Brown.

You should not look to CNN (and especially not to Larry King) to cover "the most important figures that shape our world". It's not what they are paid to do.

19. I used to like Bill Nye until...
I saw him one day at a starbucks chatting with someone. I was very excited to see him and I was with my daughter and introduced her to him and reminded her that we used to watch him on TV. Well Mr Nye was about as rude as he could possibly be and when I admired his Prius he said something to the effect " Oh yeah groovy man Peace man" in a very condescending manner. THat was the end of my admiration for Bill Nye. I think he is a right winged wacko.

22. Aw, bummer. I hate it when celebrities are rude.
But I'm learning not to put people on pedestals. They all come crashing down because they're human. Celebrities either get big heads or get tired of being recognized everywhere they go and turn into major league assholes.

Michael Landon was that way. He once filmed an episode of "Highway to Heaven" in the tiny town where I attended school. I skipped a few classes to watch and caught him trying to sneak into his trailer. I looked at him; he looked at me. His eyes said, "Don't you EVEN think of saying a word." So I stepped out of view and left him alone.

23. I enjoy Bill Nye
This is his second spot on Larry King in the past few days. He's made a good pitch about global warming and the crisis it represents. It was funny to watch the Accuweather meteorologist (probably a Santorum buddy) that King also has on throw out his disclaimer that "not all scientists believe in global warming." Afterwards, Nye told King "I don't think I said anything that controversial ... the oceans are getting warmer." Go Bill!
