"LIAR! LIAR! LIAR! LIAR! LIAR!" |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 12:07 PM by Sugar Smack
Saturday the 24th in DC was the most exciting day of my life. We marched, we shouted, we carried banners and wonderful posters, and we chanted spiritedly. I was with my fellow DUers and we were feeling an exquisite energy race through our crowd.
But one moment of absolute purity stands out in my mind: As we approached the front of the White House, one person started screaming "LIAR!" The tone had changed altogether. We'd showed spirit and frustration and anger when we'd previously chanted, but the pure true simplicity of the word "Liar", standing where we were standing, swept everyone to a new level of rage and lit us on fire.
In this word, you could hear and feel all of our rage from day one of the Bush Administration to now, coming loose and turning into a life form all its own. There was perfect rhythm and the silence between the shouts and screams of "Liar" were palpable. One person, another, a group, a crowd, suddenly becomes something to be reckoned with.
That was a moment of truth that I'll never forget.
Added bonus: I'm quite enjoying the raw, throaty sound of my voice today.

1. I must have been near you at the march - or maybe |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 12:17 PM by MaggieSwanson
we all felt the same when we stood in front of that place.
We started with LIAR! LIAR! LIAR! for a long time, then SHAME! SHAME!SHAME!
I'll always remember that moment, too.
(edited for typo ;))

11. We must have been near each other, |
|
but you know what was uncanny? There was no sense of how many people must have been shouting it. Other times we chanted, there was plenty of extraneous noise between beats. Between the repetitions of the word "LIAR", you could have heard a pin drop.

Many that saw the aftermath of Katrina's destruction and indifference by BushCo has lead to a new influx of open-eyed people wanting to march along side you.

Ain't it great? Ain't it powerful?
I wish the organizers of the march had understood that. That nonsense with the speakers from ANSWER was unfortunate and detracted from the simple purpose of the march.
Imagine if the marchers had simply ringed the White House, filling all the streets and avenues leading away from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., and stood there, silently.
And then started chanting "Liar."
That, in my opinion, would have made history.

That is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! There was so much power eminating from our rage. We had really focused our rage at that moment.

6. Good To See This Post... |
|
As I checked posts yesterday I came away with the feeling that too many here were too upset with A.N.S.W.E.R. and the fact that THEY were the organizers! As I said to them, it wasn't ONLY them, it was also United For Peace & Justice and many more.
They were upset because some of the speakers were "off messages", but I also told them, had they been there they would have seen how NOT "off message" the people in the March were. There was so much energy and focus on just how WE THE PEOPLE are feeling about THE LIAR!!
I was so happy to have been a part of it, and because we didn't get to start the March until about 2:45, we missed a lot of the BEST speeches. Unfortunately, the coverage by C-Span must have been pretty bad, but FSTV did a good job and I did get to record some of the speeches and performers I missed!
I really wanted to get together with other DU'ers, but the girl I was with wanted do other things. But we got in a great deal and I enjoyed so much while I was there anyway. We didn't even get to meet with the group from Sarasota, but made the best of it. It was a great success from my point of view, even IF C-Span and others perpetuated a different view. There are other outlets, even MSNBC who gave it some coverage. The March WAS ALL ABOUT ElSmirkleRoy, Cheney and the rest of "the corrupt ones!"
I'm so glad I went! Now let's go forward and keep our VOICES out there! I'm actually still hoarse today!

Being a part of that, if only for a minute, leaves all of us feeling a rare sense of gratification! You inspired my edit, by the way. ;)

Being silent is weird
I wanted to give Joan a call to see how she's doing but nothing will come out. I'll have to email my boss and tell him I'm not coming in tomorrow.
