How do we get out of our box? |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 12:23 PM by smartvoter
Dean can't get fired up and rally the troops without being labeled as crazy. Kerry can't show restraint when baited by the Swifties without being called weak. Dems are damned if they do and damned if they don't. They have to navigate from within a tiny box.
Meanwhile, the Republicans can transparently lie, be unable to even function in debates, claim to be tough after evading combat themselves, fail to speak in coherent sentences and have histories of corruption and substance abuse. They have no box at all.
How do we get out of this damned box???
Edit: typo

2. I think of it not as a box but as being pulled in too many directions |
|
Currently the democrats are confounded the tangled dangling of lead ropes that myriad constituencies try to throw over the neck of every democratic official in order to lead them to their little acre of issues.
We'd end up with more production, and suffer less erosion if we attracted constituencies to work in a field with deliberate furrows planted with some basic principles that serve the most best.
We're getting no where letting dozens of constituencies try to simultaneously pull the big blue mule in different directions with their own leads.

...remarks correctly, the box to which you refer is essentially of their own making. In other words, who is forcing Dean to tread lightly for fear of what label detractors will try to attach?, and why should Kerry show restraint in the face of such blatant smear? That's when you hit back as hard as you can. Dems are not damned if they do, they're damned because (as a group) they don't. If they navigate from within a tiny box it is because they choose to do so. Personally, I think the DLC is a big part of the problem.
Republicans do not hold back on anything (including outright theft of elections), for fear of what the opposition might say or do.
How do Dems get out, you ask? Simply lift the box lid off and step out.
