I found the fundamental difference
I found it over in the Iowa forum... article link:
http://www.wcfcourier.com/articles/2005/09/13/news/metro/b5cec1e526faa9ae8625707b0049b0a6.txt

Bill Dix let the cat out of the bag Monday --- he wants to replace Jim Nussle as the 1st District Congressman.

...

The state representative from Shell Rock already announced last month that he wouldn't seek reelection to the state house. A month prior to that, his campaign committee announced they raised more than $200,000 already to fund the campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives.

...

"Unless Congress and President Bush act to make them permanent, your taxes will go up again," Dix said. "As your Congressman I will let you know that I will vote to make these tax cuts permanent."

He shared a humorous conversation between his daughter, Elizabeth, 4, and son Will, 5. Elizabeth caught part of a discussion about taxes and wondered what they were. Dix said Will responded with tears that he and his dad had talked about it. They needed that money they spent on taxes to buy toys.

...

TO BUY TOYS?!?!

That's it. That's the fundamental difference. Democrats view taxes as their part for the betterment of all. Republicans view taxes as taking away from what they can buy at Wal-Mart.

As they say, from the mouths of babes.

1. Okay, so I'm the only person who didn't already know this!
LMAO! I'm sorry. I guess I just never put 2 and 2 together before today. I'm blind-sided by this knowledge.
