How come 1/2 hour later Franken hasn't announced Cindy's arrest? |
|
CNN radio news had it on the 2:00 broadcast.
I think he's live today - am I missing something?

1. It's not a news program? The news at the top of the hour will announce it. |

I don't know of any progressive talk show that doesn't comment on BIG news. What's up with him anyway?

10. He's in the middle of a show. If it were really time-dependent, he would |
|
talk about it. Is tomorrow too late for you? Will the world change if he waits 24 hours (since it's already been on the news)? Perhaps he and the staff realizes that Randi — whose show is a great deal more free-form — will probably spend most of her four hours ranting about it.

I mean, isn't this a big deal and something that should at least be acknowledged? I don't even think he knows it's happening.

13. I'm just sick of the whining around here about AAR. |
|
Franken doesn't talk about the things you want to hear? Malloy "bashes" Democrats? Randi mistreats her callers?
Have a problem with the hosts? Write them.
Don't like it? Don't listen to it. Period.

for some sort of comment from a leader in progresive radio. I was wondering if he was live or not and if he was live why he didn't comment on the story. I hardly consider the way I asked the question as whining. Sounds like you are a bit pissed about AAR criticism - this was not AAR criticism per se, I was wondering what the deal was - it's the #1 story at DU right now.

The entire show is planned out ahead of time and is based on guests. Al does not do breaking news and never has.

What is being missed is that Franken doesnt cover breaking news. Never has.
As far as Al and Cindy Sheehan. Al is unfortunately still pro-occupation based on the erronous belief that the occupation can be done in a way that will benefit Iraqi's. If you want to conclude from this that he is trying to appear mainstream, I suppose you can. But it seems fairly obvious to me that he is simply mistaken about the situation in Iraq. Having a mainstream bias and dishonestly crafting opinions are two very different things and I would like to know the evidence that Franken's opinions arent earnestly his.
But I still hold out hope that like Jaun Cole he will come around eventually.

23. No, and they have said that they wait until they have guests booked |

before discussing issues. Although I wouldnt neccessarily expect to see an interview about this particular event on Franken. Which while unfortunate doesnt bother me that much. There are plenty of important issues to be covered and other hosts will give it time and attention.

28. Some people confuse hate with..... |
|
....challenging a show to do better. Franken is frustrating to listen to when you know there's plenty of stuff to talk about (and laugh about too), but he wastes valuable airtime making inside jokes about his guests and the endlessly boring song parodies to introduce people. I can't actually believe the "don't criticize Al's show" crowd is entertained by that.

He is talking about his great experience marching in DC this weekend!!
This is holding my interest a lot more - his recounting of the march is fun!
He is saying now how some Freeper called his wife a Communist and Ed shouted the guy down!

29. "the establishment" huh? Which establishment? |
|
Al is who he is and is completely honest about his opinions and associations.
He has said that he is a DLC democrat, but that is an extremely misleading fact in a vacuum. He has also identified himself as a progressive and as a Wellstone Democrat. He supports David Sirota who is actively opposing the DLC in the party. Al is obviously not a DLC partisan, he is an indepdendent Democrat who takes the DLC at thier word and thinks that they are fighting for liberal values thus he sees no conflict between being a progressive and expressing support for the DLC.
If one wants to write off Franken one can go off limited information and draw odd conclusions about his motivations, but if one wants to know the truth, one has to take everything into account, especially his expressed opinions. He is a progressive democrat who is to some extent carrying a mainstream bias that moderates his opinions on some issues.
It is unfortunate, and hopefully he will become more radicalized, but he is a far cry from simply being an establishment tool if thats what your post was meant to imply.

I don't support DLCers and that's not open to discussion or compromise.
You seem to be confused. Al is not a member of the DLC. He did not say he was a DLC member, he said he was a DLC democrat.
The important fact here, which you are intentionally ignoring is that you and Al have very different ideas of what the DLC stand for.
I have no problem with criticism's of Al's niavete, stance on issues, bias towards mainstream sources and opinions, and his giving the benefit of the doubt to people who dont deserve it. But to paint him as some partisan centrist is blatently dishonest.
