Help me understand this TOON...

I'm not sure if it's saying the Anti-War protests were overshadowed by Rita or that they are being blamed by the admin for relief efforts (or both).

Recently, Lang's toons have been anti-admin, but this one I'm having trouble with...

2. It is BOTH anti-admin and anti-Sheenan.
The relief effort for the hurricane is going extremely slowly due to the methods of delivery.

But Cindy has gone off the deep end with some of her rhetoric.

At least that's what I think he is saying.

3. I Take Those Red Tags Are "Press Credentials"....
...so my take on it is, the MSM wants only "ONE STORY" to focus on, and Cindy, as the "toon" says, is in their way.

4. I think he means to imply that Cindy believes the troops in
New Orleans, like the troops in Iraq, are accomplishing nothing, and should be called home.

5. So, because there was a march in Washington....
Red Cross couldn't deliver aid. I didn't know that the march took place in a distribution center, or anywhere near the Gulf for that matter.

This one is just confusing.

6. Totally Anti-Sheehan. Look at how she's drawn, with a pilgrim hat
and a huge belly, with Sheehan & "co" obstructing progress in New Orleans.

It's really dumb.

14. Maybe it's about a witch hunt against her, news outlets on TV
barely gave the protest the time of day, they were so busy pushing the 'hurricane relief/Bush is on top of things' agenda.

8. Blind spot alert....its anti-Sheehan, implying she is overstepping...
and getting into issues outside of the war to draw attention to herself.

P.S. Not my belief, but that's the toon's point.

9. It's based on a deliberate misrepresentation
of Cindy Sheehan's goals, and therefore sucks wind.

10. eight different takes....
I'd say this cartoon is poorly drawn and misses whatever point it was intended to make. Eight different readers drew eight conclusions, although I tend to go with the one that says the red tags are press credentials.

Stupid toon, that's all.

12. Meaning is crystal clear:
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 03:38 PM by SlipperySlope
Background: On September 16th, Cindy gave a message where she called for Bush to "pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans". (You can read the whole message on michaelmoore.com for context)

The message this cartoon is giving is that, from the point of view of New Orleans relief, Cindy is just in the way. Put differently, her comments are not helpful to the goal of providing aid to the people of New Orleans.

I don't think the cartoonist is making any bigger statement about Cindy or the anti-war movement.

He got his first big break working for Rush Limbaugh, 'nuf said. His cartoons aren't funny, that's a big tip off.
