Air America should organize a march NOW |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 05:46 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
get some credible groups like global exchange and working for change involved and promote it on the stations
the speakers could be great - hartmann, garofalo, randi, and, most importantly, MALLOY
throw in some other folks like molly ivins, hightower, zinn - get steve earle and billy bragg to provide the rabble-rousing sing-alongs- and you have a focused, energizing, non-cringe-inducing rally that will draw more than the flakes in answer could ever hope for
if not AAR, then someone should organize a credible, populist march that we can get the growing majority of americans to attend
let's do this

2. it's not to a radio station to organize a march |
|
the ones that should do it are the progressive democrats
then they can invite who they want and avoid extreme-left hijacking as the case was recently

just a suggestion-but we really need to get a strong, mainstream movement going, MLK style if we're going to do marches

9. OK then-we can do this if we try. Let's talk about it. |
|
1. In another thread there was discussion about starting another protest, and one of the dates suggested was for the State of the Union Address. Do we have any other suggestions for a date? We can plan for the SOTU Address, and if it's in the middle of the week, we could start the Saturday before. Protesting the SOTU I think would be a good setting, since it will be a year after the Coronation.
2. How do we find a sponsor? I assume UFPJ might like to be involved, especially since ANSWER got the lion's share of publicity this past weekend.
3. We will need to see about permits and legalities. It would be best for someone from DC to do that.
4. We need to see about arranging more publicity. That unfortunately was lacking this last time (although word still did get out, and there was coverage). We did make use of blogs and left-leaning media, but hopefully we can do better.
This can be done.

--that date gives a little more time to get things together.

March. I have to go to bed now but will check all this out tomorrow. Count me in -- I had a problem this time and couldn't come to the march but am just about to be disentangled from some cr@p and will be there with bells on the next time! and free to do organization/publicity /etc. beforehand.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4890529I found information about permits for Washington, posted in that thread. We really need somebody like UFPJ or someone on the ground in Washington who knows what they are doing to lead the charge for the actual physical protest.
