How About this? Call to Action - Civil Disobedience?

What: No Driving, No Buying Gas, No visiting any retail store

When: Halloween Weekend, 2005 - From 6p.m. Friday October 28th to Monday, October 31, at midnight.

Why: To remind the Government and Corporate American that they exist for the people and by the people, and we are willing to sacrifice the most popular annual activity we have with our children to works toward a better future for them.

Evil forces are loose in the US.

Who: US Families and Citizens (no political or partisan organization sponsored activity, just the families and citizens whose hard earned money enables the government and corporate America to exist)


Just asking if we could pass something like this to everyone we know....Could you imagine the impact if 25,000 households were to make this committment and let everyone they know they are doing this?

On Edit, my family is doing for the entire weekend!!!At least.

3. I applaud the concept

but I question the effectiveness. I know that virtually everything I buy is a necessity. If I don't buy gas that weekend, in order to get to work the next week, I will have to buy more on Monday. Same with food.

4. Well, I don't mean this as an offense, but

at this rate, I think that unless we make our voices felt with economic impact and prove that masses is what makes the country run, we'll just have to sit and wait for the politicians to do what we expect them to do. I am starting to feel they are hopeless.

Anyway, it was just an idea. Would love to see another one since the March may be forgotten soon.

and I am the last person to be giving advice on furtherinig political causes.

But I have read that boycots are not as effective as other strategies.

Maybe more marches? March after march?

8. I'm getting worried that the marches (there were hundreds thru the

world this weekend)aren't as large as they should be. Think about it, almost 300 millions and maybe 600,000 protesters across the country? When Noriega was removed, the country had gone thru almost three years of marches, and the marches included almost the entire country...That's all. But hopefully, some of the indictments might come soon and that might put a great hamper on the admin.

6. You'd need Millions to participate...

...and it still wouldn't really work.

'Cause whatever we don't buy on the weekend, we still have to buy later on.

This same notion was floated as a "gas out" where we wouldn't buy any gas on a particular day.

7. Still think we need to do either...We need to select a venue

that has a real economic impact, not just on gas, but on retail as general.

9. I suggest we go for irritating.

There's nothing that gets to people more than something irritating. You punch a guy in the mouth, he either gets you worse or has you put in jail. But, if you make the hue on his TV slightly off, he'll go nuts until it gets fixed. Now, I'm not sure what would be the most irritating to the most people that wouldn't land the perpetrators in jail, but we have a number of creative minds here. I'm sure we can collectively come up with something.

10. Internet-based calls for boycotts almost never are effective.

I've seen them attempted a hundred times, and not much ever happens.

Now, World Can't Wait http://www.worldcantwait.org/ has called for a day of action on November 2nd. Why not plan something in your area? I'm thinking about it.
