all this attention given to cheney
is setting him up for his well planned early departure. he knows the gop dont have a prayer to win another election with a "at large" nominee. so he will resign (due, of course to "health reasons" ) and the chimp will appoint someone in his place so they can run the appointee for pres in 2008

1. Can you spell "McCain"?
ever since novak floated dick cheney as a potential nominee in 2008, the handwriting has been on the wall...

2. I'd be surprised if it was McCain
You have to understand that they don't see McCain the same way you do. Much of the conservative base sees McCain the same way we see Lieberman.

More to the point, if there is one thing this administration values it's loyalty, by which they mean willingness to stifle any and all criticism of President Bush. McCain hasn't exactly done that.

6. Beg to differ
it's all about the image.

that picture of McCain chowsing birthday cake with Bush while people drown in their own attics played very well to the base.

McCain, whatever he may say at this point, has been leashed and brought to heel by the bushistas. they screwed with his family for lawd's sake, and he still attached his mouth to their tailpipes like it was an oxygen tank.

Deal cut and done. McCain/Jeb Bush. Maybe Condi, they're just cynical enough, but the taint of Iraq might still styink in '08.
Lugar would be a better bet for the ticket; the elder statesman (Muskie/Bentsen) sydrome.

Frist is fried, Romney can't even get reelected in MA; besides, it'll be intersting to see how a Mormon born in Michigan, governing the bluest state in the union plays in Alabama.

Newt? Done.
George Allen? Cornered the moron vote, perhaps, but not exactly well-thought of by republicans and human beings outside of the beltway. Warner is, and Warner makes no secret of his disdain for Allen.

If they go to the heartland, (Brownback, any other white guy senator) they will make no progress where they need to- the north, west, southwest, and the rust belt.

I think the gene pool is very shallow for pugs in '08.

3. McCain-Condie, '08 - "They Finished the Job In Iraq "
Just like Nixon-Agnew brought us "Peace with Honor" in Vietnam by expanding the war to Cambodia and Laos.

Only this time, we'll attack Syria and (less likely) Iran.

The GOP recycles its strategies. Just wait and see. This is going to happen.

5. Same Thing with Shrub.
It's hard to see how W can continue for long without his silent partner.
