4. What's with the Egyptian costumes? and the children?
Those are some expensive costumes! Does this prison have a costume and makeup budget? Why aren't the women wearing uniforms? It's just so weird...

3. They have better costume makers at their prisons than we do.
Seriously, I wonder who the judges are and what the winner gets.

6. it's a different culture
There are some relevant questions:

1. was there a prize of any intrinsic value?
2. was there a disincentive for not participating?

Most particularly, I think if they thought it was "wrong" they wouldn't be doing it openly. I don't necessarily agree with it, but it doesn't seem as if it's really our place to make a judgement about it if questions 1 & 2 can be answered truthfully.

8. Here's a scary article with some more info about Honduras's prisons:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3724221.stm

...
In Honduras, some 30,000 youths - mostly recruited from street children - are believed to be gang members.

The "maras", which have their origins in the street gangs of Los Angeles, are active in several Central American countries.
