WP: Hostage Gave Meth to Atlanta Fugitive
Edited on Tue Sep-27-05 12:51 PM by kskiska
ATLANTA -- The woman who says she gained the trust of suspected courthouse gunman Brian Nichols by talking about her faith in God discloses in a new book that she gave him methamphetamine during the hostage ordeal.

Ashley Smith did not share that detail with authorities after she talked her way out of captivity.

In her book, "Unlikely Angel," released Tuesday, Smith says Nichols had her bound on her bed with masking tape and an extension cord. She says he asked for marijuana, but she did not have any, and dug into her crystal methamphetamine stash instead.

Smith, who has been in a mental hospital and has flunked out of drug rehabilitation programs, says the seven-hour hostage ordeal led her to stop using drugs. She says she has not touched drugs since the night before she was taken hostage.

(snip)

Smith's 911 call to police when she was released led authorities to Nichols. She said she read him passages from author Rick Warren's "The Purpose-Driven Life" to gain his trust.

31. i've always believed this too...
...did you notice how far he had to drive from downtown to get to her apartment in far north fulton county, in a stolen federal agent's pick-up truck? not to mention her apartment was waaay in the back of the complex. and why would she follow him down a major street to dump the pick-up, then take him back to her apartment? and then he let her go to get her kid from the babysitter?

can't wait to hear nichols' side of this story.

34. Nichols might have known her late husband.
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 10:10 AM by rocknation
According to her book, at least, he was stabbed to death in a brawl.

But yes, this revelation does knock her "angelicness" out of the ring. I'm glad she got out of it alive, but she honored neither her god nor herself by concealing the drug information.

24. Actually the "chapter" had been hollowed out
so she could keep her stash hidden in the book. It's like an alcoholic hiding booze. Who'd think to look there?

I think I just saw something about a TV movie about her. Another fucking hypocrite fundie. Anybody know where this movie is showing? I think I saw the ad last week. It may have been on already

Of course now she's saying she doesn't use anymore and all is forgiven. Just like shrub... I claim to be saved so therefor anything I do wrong doesn't matter.

She's on Oprah today or tomorrow. Dya think Oprah knows about the meth?

the meth to keep him calm. Keep him calm? Meth is a stimulant, not a relaxant.

29. Maybe it helped take the edge off
her crack binges?

I once represented a client who was arrested while out looking for meth after smoking crack for a couple of days. It didn't make sense to me then but now... Who am I to question the rationale?
