Republicans Celebrate "Contract with America"
“Trying to gain some capital from dwindling Republican poll numbers, House Democratic leaders today will mark the 11th anniversary of the GOP’s ‘Contract with America’ to kick off their latest 2006 political crusade called the ‘Campaign for Change,’” reports Roll Call.

“Democratic leaders will use the anniversary of the 1994 Republican revolution document to highlight what they view as GOP legislative failures and lay out reasons for a major political turnover next November.”

Story from Roll Call story dated 9/27/05. http://politicalwire.com/archives/2005/09/27/republicans_celebrate_contract_with_america.html If you have an account you can read the entire story.

Would love to see how many of the items in that contract are being honored by the fundies today. I know my fundie, Baptist preacher rep. swore he would be a two term Congressman and was elected by running on term limits. Needless to say, he has changed his mind.

2. Contract??
I guess they're celebrating the contraction of resources; contraction of the surplus, contraction of the federal government's responsibilities; contraction of human rights; states' rights and the contraction of everything that the world once admired about the US. Ah well celebrate while everyone else weeps.

8. Nah. Can't celebrate. They broke that contract before the next election
cycle.

A complete bust.

Notice... Newt left. Wasn't he the Big Cheese?

Why are they "celebrating" a failure? Oh, yeah... they want to "celebate" 9/11, too.

Morans.

10. Actually a study was done on the "contract with America" bullshit...
about 4 years ago. It found that only 2 of the points were followed through and those two were so watered down that they were a mere shadow of what they once were. So in essence, it did nothing except give some short term politicians their 15 minutes of fame.

I'm sure there is a link out there with the report.

colossal racist failure*.

11. Contract With America?
Wghat contract. A contract is an agreement between two parties. In '94, Newt Gingrich, the author of that "contract", announ ced its existence but he never said when that contract was signed, who siogned it and did everyone in the country agree to it.

No one ever asked me to sign. I never saw the contract or even knew about it until Newt waved it in his hands like Chamberlin, before WW2, proclaiming "PEACE IN OUR TIME" following talks with Adolf.

About the only celebration that I am interested in is the one in the streets the day after election day when Bush and company are shown the door. Then you will see a celebration to end all celebrations.

12. Didn't the Republicans lose lots of seats in 96
because of the Contract on America? Odd thing for them to celebrate.
