Who You Gonna Believe...? Rightwingers Rewrite Katrina

EXCERPT:

Just finished reading the other piece (this one from the L.A. Times) that has rightwing bloggers and Drudge breathlessly announcing that what we all saw with our own eyes in New Orleans was a media fabrication.

What this article does is set up a series of straw men and knock them down. Sample: "The wild rumors filled the vacuum and seemed to gain credence with each retelling - that an infant's body had been found in a trash can, that sharks from Lake Pontchartrain were swimming through the business district, that hundreds of bodies had been stacked in the Superdome basement."

But it wasn't those tall tales that had Americans up in arms. We all know that Americans were enraged about something much more basic: the fact that evacuees were left hopeless, homeless, hungry, thirsty, and without adequate medical attention for so long in the heart of a major American city. And this, four years after 9/11 and in full view of terrorists who now know we're woefully unprepared when it comes to a domestic disaster of this magnitude.

1. They really do use Orwell's "1984" as a guidebook, don't they?

4. acting like a big deal they only found 10 dead. all while waiting for
fema that week, that is about the number i was hearing were dead. where they decided is was hundreds dead in the superdome i dont know. i didnt hear that story. didnt go with accounting at the time. so to puff out chest now and say those stories arent true as they tell the stories i had heard, to lessen the horror,.....

that was the horror.

but how much softer they sound now

yes, our administration no longer waits for it to even become history, before history is changed. a consistant ploy of theirs

today. On and on he went. Spin, spin, spin. The media did it. It's all a media fantasy. The media did it. Spin, spin, spin.
