"Woman Ticketed for Sitting on a Playground Bench with No Kids"
Woman Ticketed for Sitting on a Playground Bench with No Kids

QUOTE
It's an only in New York story. A woman was given a ticket for sitting on a park bench because she doesn't have children.

The Rivington Playground on Manhattan's East Side has a small sign at the entrance that says adults are prohibited unless they are accompanied by a child. Forty-seven-year-old Sandra Catena says she didn't see the sign when she sat down to wait for an arts festival to start. Two New York City police officers asked her if she was with a child. When she said no, they gave her a ticket that could bring a one thousand dollar fine and 90 days in jail.

The city parks department says the rule is designed to keep pedophiles out of city parks, but a parks spokesman told the Daily News that the department hoped police would use some common sense when enforcing the rule.

The spokesman told the paper that ticketing a woman in the park in the middle of the day is not the way you want to enforce the rule.
UNQUOTE

Why do NY police enforce signs that probably are not covered by a law?

2. So there are no pedophiles who have kids?
The prohibition seems rather screwy.

3. Thanks to the efforts of scumbag Rudy Giuliani
NYC has become the ticketing capital of the world.I remember back in
95' or so a woman was given a summons because she took up 2 subway seats with her big ass or if you placed a package on a seat. Then there
was a man who chained his delivery bike to a tree,1,000.00 summons for
that and a dad allowed his 8 yr.old to climb a low branch on a tree re
sult 1,000.00 summons.Mayor Bloomberg has continued the Giuliani way
as you see by the story you posted.Since 911 parking fines tripled, top
parking ticket 180.00 dollars while the majority of tickets are 115.00
Our courts are jammed with citizens who are issued a ticket/summons to appear before a judge for some of the most minor issues i.e. standing in front of a subway station, open can of beer, big ass, tree
hanging,and sitting on a bench....
The Bush Crime Family brought this misery to NYC and America I hate them with a passion,I curse them and wish them misery and hardships.
Remember last yr. our NYPD arrested and detained up to 72 hours RNC
protesters, over 1800 were arrested for what I ask? Expressing one's
1st amendment rights used to be legal........

4. This is absurd in so many different ways...
First off, that anyone thinks a sign is going to keep out pedophiles. Yeah, right.

Second, that keeping them out of the park helps...pedophiles have been known to understand how to talk through fences and over hedges. Children can be lured out that way.

Pedophiles can and do have children of their own, so there's that.

Finally...This line is the most absurd of all: "...ticketing a woman in the park in the middle of the day is not the way..."

Okay...so women aren't pedophiles (yeah, right) and if you expect to ticket pedophiles, when will you find them in the park? In the middle of the night, when the kiddies are all home in bed?

5. If she refused to leave then I could see ticketing her...
but since that wasn't the case it sounds like cops with too much time on their hands.

I bet it'll be tossed out.

11. Are they robots?
Do they do exactly what they're told without thinking? They couldn't have been using common sense. Sheesh.

12. NYC police have quota's to meet.
Rudy Giuliani replaced the quota's with a monthly target, same shit
different wrapping.NYPD also must arrest a minimum number of people
each quarter,I think its 3.Tough life for a NYC cop having to write
absurd tickets....

13. Many public libraries
Are starting to do the same in the children's section, usually at the insistence of the local government.
