he just wrote about what he saw - like the murder of Medgar Evers. Great documentary by Scorcese.

6. saw pt 1 last nite - the most amazing personal part to me was |
|
how this somewhat bland and benign high school guy later turned into "bob dylan" with all thos awesome lyrics. I bet that suprised most of his high school days classmates.
"once upon a time you dressed so fine, gave the bums a dime in your prime, didnt you.." indeed!

8. I am 25, so wasn't around during the 60's |
|
After seeing this, I am thinking one of two things. Either Dylan wasn't that big and they are just connecting his music to what was going on at the time, rather than his music having such an effect, OR where the heck is someone of this talent today to speak to the minds of people?
I was a Bob Dylan fan before this, but only new the more mainstream stuff. This has opened up more of his work and I want to hear more.

11. Their were always a lot of people who didn't "get" Dylan. |
|
I doubt many Republicans "got" what Dylan was talking about.
I think I was 18 when I heard my first Bob Dylan record in 1982, but I grew up hearing my parents Peter, Paul and Mary and Irish Folk Music records all the time, but if you're into Folk music, Dylan is like a God.

He was big but he tapped into something deep and big that went beyond words or music. It also went beyond politics.
Blowin in the Wind has become so used, it's hard to describe the chill that hearing it fresh in the context of the times. Masters of War sends chills up the spine even today -- maybe especially today.
And then with Like a Rolling Stone, he took it in a totally different direction.
Aint nobody around today that has the same impact. But we need someone like that more than ever.

They are playing on BBC on October 1st, or it's already out on DVD, I gotta get that. Plus this is part 2, I missed part 1 last night.
I can believe they didn't take this to the Movie Theaters, this is as good as "The Kids are Alright." (The Who)
