Smith gave alleged courthouse shooter drugs
"ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- Ashley Smith, the woman who says she persuaded suspected courthouse gunman Brian Nichols to release her by talking about her faith in God, discloses in a new book that she gave him methamphetamine during the hostage ordeal."

5. she's a fundy crackhead..
"She writes that she asked Nichols if he wanted to see the danger of drugs and lifted up her tank top several inches to reveal a five-inch scar down the center of her torso -- the aftermath of a car wreck caused by drug-induced psychosis. She says she let go of the steering wheel when she heard a voice saying, "Let go and let God.""

umm.... no thanks

I know psychologists say that hostages bond with their captors and all, but that's going too far!

Especially if said grovelling requires friggin' crystal from one's personal drug stash. Why wasn't this lady charged with possession?

9. I don't know, but I do believe that many fundies
need the extra structure and discipline that religion can provide because they know they are weak and will succumb to dangerous temptations without it. But it pisses me off that they are often arrogant enough to believe that all the rest of us must share the same weaknesses, and therefore our earthly laws should reflect those of Jeebus.

One addiction to another.... Alec Baldwin also said this about his brother, Stephen. It's true -- I've known alot of people like that.

This was well after they had rounded up the guy, and she had on nice clothes, but her skin and eyes just looked "off." This explains it!

12. You do what you gotta do, but...
Giving meth to a crazed killer ain't the smartest move. Of course if his enhanced psychosis allowed him to swallow that christian bullshit, then good for her.

instantly convincing a vicious murderer letting her go after killing and maiming so many others.

17. Meth is pure EVIL ... the Nazi's used amphetamines like
it during the 40s. Yes, do you want to be buzzed? Uptight? Paranoid? Then Depressed?

Nope?

Then be sure to stay the hell off of meth and/or any other of the "stimulants" ... well caffeine excluded, but of course. :P

20. Oh no, we're all A OK when sober and in control of our
judgement. Like I tell the teens, "if you want to act stupid and feel ashamed later, GET DRUNK!" ;)

That's an excellent decision. Alcohol does not tend to be as addictive as stimulants, but I can do without both. Hey, I'm the mom of a pre-teen. I have many reasons to get up EARLY and down some Jack Daniels, but I continue to resist. LOL

I was an addiction counselor in the Republic of Panama during the early 90s. You could (I was told by many troops) buy an ounce of cocaine for $5-$6 if you had a good source.

I treated some very "hard cases" and it breaks your heart. Like Meth Amphetamine, Cocaine is a stimulant. Please remember that what is chemically "brought up" MUST "come down."

That is, even if you're one for the fortunate few who thoughtfully continues to "work your program" and stay off the Meth, the ensuing depression due to your brain chemistry having been altered, may very well last the REST OF YOUR LIFE.

I hate that term, "Just say NO!" However, please help yourself, your family, and your friends through the "difficult times" so that you can all have the strength NOT to give in to such horrid drug use, i.e., resist self-medication.

/rant off

21. Lots of jerks on this board
Any opportunity to attack Christians is a good opportunity for some DUers, apparently.

Is she quoted as being some kind of 'Bush-loving, you're going to Hell fundie'? Is she coming to your house to shove a Bible down your throat?

Pathetic.

22. You're so right
us DU'ers should leave those poor crank-snorting Christians alone...tsk, tsk. After all, it's not like we had a 24-7 shoving down OUR throats of the "heroic exploits" of this brave Christian woman who clearly demonstrated that her God was better than all of ours.....er, no wait, we did. And little Ashley Crankhead played right along with it...otherwise, she would have piped up on her first of a gazillion guest spots on Larry King that she ran plum out of coffee for her guest and decided to offer him some spare meth she just happened to have in the pantry.

Victimhood is so unbecoming of Christians....I imagine you'll post next of when you'll be thrown to the lions.

by so many so-called Christians. She may be a pawn, but she is definitely in play, and she is taking advantage of her situation.

And how her faith in God miraculously both shielded her from death AND flowed into her captor like some kind of holy electricity. And this was served up with a big dose of "ha ha, Godless, evil Liberals." Now we know she gave him ILLEGAL DRUGS WHICH SHE WAS IN POSSESSION OF. It wasn't just Jesus, a book, and pancakes. She sure as hell didn't say this when she was being touted as the new Jean D'Arc. And, she's a double-hypocrite because she gave HIM ILLEGAL DRUGS WHICH SHE WAS HOLDING but refused to take them herself, because that would be a sin, standing before God methed up. OMG>

Man, the vast majority on DU NEVER slam Xians... just hypocrites masquerading as Xians. Ashely Smith needs to STFU now.

26. As a Christian, I felt something was always funny about this story
It is too bad that the truth couldn't come out right away. It is clear that both of them were at the bottom and hopefully ending the manhunt will provide them both with a chance to get their heads straight. I'm more likely to believe that God spared them than the meth helping anything. Ashley looks like another hypocrite that isn't using her own willpower to straighten out. The media is another story altogether.
