Hey, what ever happened to the UNS Comfort?
This is a serious question. Didn't we send the US Navy's Hospital Ship COMFORT to the Gulf Coast? Whatever happenened with that ship?

1. It probably hasn't left dock yet!
But we have some killer Cruise ships bobbing 1/2 empty in the gulf

2. I'm reading that story... WTF?
I seem to recall we sent a Navy Hospital ship there.... but there isn't even one story about her ever arriving.

6. This was mentioned yesterday in the Brownie hearings. It seems that
Mississippi rejected it because it wasn't "licensed?" in that state for medical care.

10. It has to do with doctors being licensed within different states. Being
a Naval medical ship I don't think they ever foresaw ever having to be used within the US.

There were other reports of doctors from other states being turned away from helping out because of only being certified in their own states to practice medicine.

3. I thought the UNS HOPE was headed down there, too.
It's had plenty of time to come down from Norfolk.

Another story that has dropped off the radar screens.

4. It was diverted to Mississippi
At the strong request of Gov. Haley Barbour (R-MS).

Actually, three or four hospital ships were dispatched to the area. All got there, and all appear to have been performing well.

If anyone has more information on this, please share it!

13. They are still in the area. They moved when the other hurricane came
through but they came back when it passed.

11. Kind, the Bataan has hospital facilities.
USNS Comfort, btw (The names of commissioned ships of the U.S. Navy start with USS, meaning 'United States Ship'. Non-commissioned, civilian-manned vessels of the U.S. Navy have names that begin with USNS, standing for 'United States Navy Ship'.). The USS Bataan is an amphibious assault ship and has a large hospital facility, too.

That said, I have no idea where Comfort is.

12. My partner is a US Navy vet... and we were talking about this last night.
I KNOW I heard the media say that ship was on the way to the gulf to help. Seems to me it didn't happen.
