Just in case you wondered how people in Mississippi viewed it.

BROWN TRIES BUCK-PASSING

By BRIAN P. NANOS

SUN HERALD WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - The former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency tried to pass the blame for the government's response to Hurricane Katrina at a House hearing Tuesday, but U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor, D-Bay St. Louis, would have none of it.

"I'm here to bear witness for the state of Mississippi," Taylor said. "You get an F-minus in my book."

When asked why, if the major mistake affected only Louisiana, the states of Mississippi and Alabama also had complaints about the agency's response, Brown replied, "Every state in every disaster has complaints about FEMA."

Taylor was not short on barbs. Among other things, he asked Brown to explain what part of FEMA's plan called for people of Mississippi to be reduced to looting grocery stores for food.

He also said Brown's agency should have been able to predict that many people with limited incomes would not be able to evacuate.

2. Brown cow...
He certainly isn't a very dignified man. He passes the buck faster than a female deer...

3. I want to know why he is still receiving a salary???
The Bush thugs allowed Browne to resign because they in fact hired an incompetant......and then rehired the same incompetant as a consultant????

As a former federal employee, I was under the impression that a retired employee could be hired back as a consultant if that individual had a specific expertise unavailable from the existant panel of employees.

Anyone notice......this seems to be taking the spot-light off the Big Roaches?

4. They're claiming it's only for a month, and only to "download" Brown's
knowledge of FEMA. I think it's worth a month of his salary to learn everything Brown knows so they can put it in a file marked "Things not to do," and use that file to train future employees.

Then they should put Brown in jail for fraud and negligent homocide.

6. That's a good idea!
And, too, I want it publically revealed just what the hiring process is for these people. How in the world did he qualify for the job--and who did it? He'd better not have gotten the job just because the prez 'likes' him, for God's sake!!!

5. I'm not sure what the hiring rules are.
However, if he made a mess, I don't mind him working as a consultant to clean it up, but it ought to be paid in any leave he has accrued, or severance pay, or something--not in more salary.
