When does Blanco testify?
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 09:12 AM by Brotherjohn
I hope she hands Brown et al their collective asses on a platter.

I hope she's clear on what she meant when she all but accused him of lying under oath saying she didn't order an evacuation until the day before the storm. She says it was two days before... on Aug. 28th. The "mandatory" evacuation of New Orleans was made on Sun., Aug. 29th (in the joint press conference with Ray Nagin). But it's clear that both she and Nagin had been strongly urging (and actively aiding) Southeast LA to evacuate for days.

They had been urging evacuation since at least the Friday before Katrina struck. Contraflow on the interstates was instituted on Saturday (http://talkingpointsmemo.com/katrina-timeline.php), and a state of emergency had already been declared by her two days before that (http://www.gov.state.la.us/2005%20%20proclamations/48pro2005-Emergency-HurricaneKatrina.pdf). The vast majority of New Orleanians had evacuated already by Sunday thanks to these measures (http://www.gov.state.la.us/Press_Release_detail.asp?id=983)

But just I hope they don't try to hammer her on what the meaning of "order" is. An evacuation is an evacuation, and it had already largely occurred (to a greater extent than even the federal government's own estimates thought possible: 60% for "Hurricane Pam") by the day that the "mandatory" evacuation of the City of New Orleans was issued.

1. I was wondering the same thing?
When will she be testifying and will she be on C-Span like Brownie was?

5. Sometime today I heard.
Not once was it mentioned yesterday that 80% of NOLA WAS evacuated. Nearly everyone who could leave, did. Brownie's arguments are senseless. He is a partisan crony feigning outrage. Do Repugs have a 'feigning outrage' school? They're very good at it.

10. The whole evacuation thing has me pissed beyond belief.
Being from New Orleans, always having lived in a hurricane zone, having closely watched many many of these storms from their birth as a Tropical Depression to dying out over the midwest somewhere, and having evacuated myself numerous times... I KNOW this evacuation was called and handled about as efficiently and in as timely a manner as was humanly possible.

11. I thought it was, too, Brotherjohn.
And I'm also concerned about *'s spending so much time with Blanco yesterday &, now, this morning. Has the blackmailing control freak been putting pressure on her to testify a certain way, is what I'm wondering. I'm afraid that she'll be too diplomatic; she's backed in a corner needing so much help.

7. Bush press conference now, just in time to take media attention
away from Blanco's opening statement. He's talking about the killing of an alleged al Qaeda leader.

9. The hearing is on CSPAN radio as well
Here is the link, just in case the major networks break away as they always do:

13. It's not on C-Span 1, 2, or 3
although CNN and MSNBC are showing snippets from time to time.

Peace

15. It certainly was, Kerry asked questions, Blanco, Barbour and
others answering questions. I am not sure why you can't seem to access it, you might try again.
