Army Investigates Photos of Iraqi War Dead on Web
I can't believe this shit by the NYTimes! As if the story is about photos of people with their guts pouring out on the ground? Why are their internal organs spilling on the ground?! Did they just have an "accident"? What in the hell do they think the real story is here? The photos??
==============================================================

<snip>
WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 - The Army has opened an investigation into whether American troops have sent gruesome photographs of Iraqi war dead to an Internet site where the soldiers were given free access to online pornography, Army officials said Tuesday.

Some photographs on the Internet site show people in American military uniforms standing around what appear to be dead bodies. Other photos include graphic images of severed body parts and what appear to be internal organs spilling from bodies onto the ground.

The images are said to come from Afghanistan as well as Iraq. Their authenticity has not been determined.

Paul Boyce, an Army spokesman, said that if soldiers had posted the images, their actions could violate the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which defines conduct unbecoming an officer or enlisted soldier.

I've seen some of the photos elsewhere, so I'm not so sure of how authentic they are.

How about killing the civilians who are in those photos? Does THAT violate the fucking code?

13. I'm not at all for censorship, but this site is disgusting.
I found out about this site several months ago because some of the people in the military are very upset about it and I wanted to see for myself what it was all about. I thought maybe some of these people were just over reacting. Well, I went to the site and my husband is in the Army and I would never want my husband as a member of the military to be associated with such scum. These are pictures from military personnel and I hope they are nailed! I had my husband look at some of these and he feels certain that they are real.

I have never been more reviled in my entire life. Some of the pictures have the most evil comments attached to them. I wish I could remember some of the examples, but I can't. They are similar or worse than the one cited in the article. Then the comments in the thread are just as bad.

There was one thread on there where a guy was begging for some soldiers to post pictures of women who they had raped or any they had watched be raped. He kept talking about how he was up near the Syrian border in Iraq and how easy it is to rape the women in the area. I think he was probably full of shit, but this seemed typical of the trash on this site.

One of the pictures that was posted was of a women who had her leg blown off somehow. She was being treated by medics and whoever was able to take the pictures took a couple of shots further back and then shot pictures of her genitalia while she was being treated on a stretcher. The picture was titled something like, Nice p****, bad stump. Some of the comments in the thread were people trying to guess if she was a US soldier or an Iraqi citizen based on her private parts. Another guy was commenting on how he would still "do her."

This was just the stuff that was shown for free so I can only imagine what was in the member sections.

I'm all for images coming out that tell the true shame and horror of war. I think Americans need to know what they support.

But, there is a big difference in showing the truth and complete exploitation.

14. These news just broke in Norway
Top headline on the main 'liberal' news tabloid:

Swapping corpse pictures with porn

(Dagbladet.no):The American arrmy are investigating several cases where soldiers have published pictures of dead Iraqis on a discussion board on the internet.

In return, they've gotten access to porn from the same web site.

(snip)

The pictures shows smiling American soldiers posing with dead bodies and bodyparts.

---------------------------------------

All in all not a very good article for the US reputation here.
This war must be stopped, lest the reputation of the US forces will be destroyed for the foreesable future abroad. Not to mention the Iraqi society...

18. Please, please tell people you know in Norway that not all US military
personnel act this way! My husband thinks this is deplorable and has been in for over 19 years. He served in Iraq for over a year.

Unfortuntely, he thinks that he is seeing this type of stuff more and more. I think these people are losing every ounce of their humanity and are becoming monsters.

19. Just think about how outraged people were when they had the audacity to
show the American POWs on TV back during the initial invasion. There was also complete rage when images were shown of the American contractors who were killed in Fallujah.

All of that is tame compared to this stuff.

The Pentagon is not going to have to worry about the photos from Abu Ghraib coming out when the rest of the world sees this stuff along with the editorial comments for each pic.

20. The discussion over at that site is interesting
It is eye opening to see what lies the soldiers are buying as justification for what they are doing.

It seems a lot of more sane and aware people have logged on to argue with them about the lies that surround this war.

If you have time I think this is a good place to debunk the myths right at the source. This site is getting a lot of attention and if you are a good debater you may be able to shed some light on the situation for some of these guys who think they are killing "terrorists" over there . . . so they don't come get us back home . . .sigh.

30. I should have put a "sarcasm" smilie beside the first line of my post.
I was trying to convey sarcasm about how Americans were all upset about seeing those images but don't seem to care about the pictures of mutilated Iraqis.

Hope it came across that way.

This story is 100% FUCKING TRUE. It's Abu Ghraib all over again.

I can only assume either the mods have their heads up their
goddamn asses or else someone is putting them under pressure to
BURY this story.

33. army says "no proof that the photos are being posted by soldiers..."
Sure-- maybe it's really the Iraqis that are trading snuff shots of family members for American porn. Right.

The web site owner claims to have 30,000 accounts from military addresses, and says that "only a few thousand" have uploaded snuff or other pics from Iraq.

35. I wish they weren't real, but I would bet lots of money on their validity.
The surroundings, equipment, etc. are just too precise. The military "lingo" found in many posts. I don't think anyone could come up with such accurate detail. These are from soldiers on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan. I had my husband look at some as well since he is in the military and served in Iraq and he says they are definitely real.

Unbelievable and really sad.

I think they are trying to keep this quiet. I'm not surprised they would try to deny it, who wouldn't? I hope they are proud of the monster(s) they have created.
