2. Yeah, I love it. Freepers calling it a "witchhunt" -- telling Tom to fight
Witch hunt, huh? Well, where have I seen THAT before, you bast*rds!

One of my fave Freeper comments so far:

"... That's going to leave a mark. But then the RATs didn't care about clinton's impeachment. The bad news is most republican voters do care about character and indictments."

As does Junior, Cheney, Rove and the rest of this crooked cabal.

The arrogance of power, indeed.

11. This ones funny
'Indictments are easy to get. Any DA worth his salt can get a grand jury to indict, it has been said. Getting the charges to stick are another thing.'

Bullshit, indictments are not easy to get. The purpose of a grand jury is to prevent prosecutors from bringing weak or phony charges. These people are clueless.

14. To be fair...
...and I admit I have no 1st hand knowledge, I've also heard over the years that the people sitting on grand juries are easy to manipulate. At least easier than "regular" juries.

15. I don't know about manipulating the Grand Jury
However to prove the burden of guilt is not as high for a Grand Jury as it is for a criminal trial....

19. It is because it is an entirely different process
A grand jury only hears one side of the case. There is no "defense", no cross examination, no witnesses for the defense, and no requirement of "proof beyond a reasonable doubt". The prosecutor lays out his case to the grand jury and only has to establish that there is probable cause for them to conclude that a crime as been committed. That is why it is easy to get an indictment. Still, it looking at this case, which is ultimately about money laundering (taking corporate money and funneling it into campaigns)one would guess that there is a pretty solid paper trail. I would guess that, although getting an indictment is easy, the prosecutor would have to be pretty confident that he had the goods before taking on a powerful and vindictive bastard like DeLay.

21. But here's an interesting perspective
someone else on DU pointed this out, and I wish I had thought of it first. Indictments may be easy to get, but note that the Clintons were never even indicted for any of their alleged "crimes."
