Report Finds Negative Image of U.S. Abroad
By BARRY SCHWEID, AP Diplomatic Writer
2 hours, 39 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - As Karen Hughes works to repair the United States' image in a trip overseas, her State Department colleagues have received a report underscoring how tough a task she faces.

Based on their own travels to the Persian Gulf, Egypt and Britain, a nine-member advisory committee headed by former Secretary of State Colin Powell's chief of staff found widespread hostility toward the United States and its policies, especially the U.S. occupation of Iraq.
................................

"Put simply, we have lost the goodwill of the world, without which it becomes ever more difficult to execute foreign policy," the report said.

And yet, it said, while committee members found "deep and abiding anger toward U.S. policies and actions," the criticism was not leveled across the board.

3. how tough a task she faces. Well, well, if they read DU and
watched the news, read the papers and magazines that report all the things that we know, they too would know.

Such is their ignorance.

14. Karen Hughes won't "repair" a damn thing.
She'll spin the lies, she'll frame the issues, she'll gloss over the atrocities and force attention onto the false fronts this administration tosses into place.

But she can't "repair" a damn thing. That takes corrective, intelligent, thoughtful foreign policy action, and that is one thing this administration has proven entirely incapable of. I honestly cannot think of a single foreign policy initiative they haven't royally screwed the pooch on. And I can't honestly think of a single foreign policy issue they have any intention of changing course on.

Karen Hughes job is to apply makeup to one hellishly ugly pig. I don't think the international community will be fooled.

17. This is terrible. It's unprecidented.
The US has always had a positive image abroad, especially in the post-war/millenial era. (1945-2000)
