I have finally calmed down
Edited on Wed Sep-28-05 08:15 PM by CatWoman
I had a heated confrontation with a colleague today (via telephone).

He was deployed to Louisiana (public health service officer), and just got back on Monday.

I asked if he saw "Brownie" on the telly yesterday, and he immediately started defending Brownie AND Bush, and attacking Bill Clinton.

I went off. Really. Literally.

He accused me of not listening to him, but I countered that I was listening all too well. He tried to shut me up, and I would have none of it.

When I brought up the Bush Admin coming into the WH lying from the start, telling lies and blaming Clinton for "vandalism", he brought up Clinton saying he didn't have sex with Lewinsky.

All Clinton pardoning Marc Rich.

And Michael Moore. Moron.

He never read "Stupid White Men". Nor has he seen "Roger and Me". If he had read SWM, he would know that Moore is just as hard, if not harder on Clinton than he is on Bush.

Each time he tried to dodge and confuse, I slapped the shit out of him and brought him back.

He claimed Clinton had Bin Laden in his grip (several times) and let him go. I countered that no only did Snopes debunk that lie, so did the 9/11 commission.

He got really pissed when I said that I didn't know he was a Republican, and I had thought better of him than that.

I finally said that he ought to be ashamed of himself, because his party was fucking up this country. He came back with Bush "inheriting" Clinton's "mess" and hasn't had to to straighten it out.

It took me an hour to calm down, then I just started emailing him links to back up my points.

Tomorrow is going to be a real kicker.

I have to remember to send him J.C. Watts' father's quote about blacks voting for Republicans is akin to chickens voting for Col. Sanders.

Fucking asshole.

Photo Ops, and brain wash...

Clinton made the economy grow from 2500 to 12000

Was paying off the Nat Debt

FEMA worked

People had JOBS

FEAR Level was LOW

Under Bush, its been cronyism, ineptness, deafness(he don take to warnings), and a war we didn't need.

An, where the phuck is Osama?

27. A Republican hollering "Clinton" is like a wrestler hollering "Uncle"
At that point, it's soooo over. They've lost the argument.

Good for you, CatWoman. Slap him once for me, just on principle.

Also, be sure to remind him that dumbya is in office, has been for 5 years & when of the effing repugs going to start blaming him? Like, maybe sometime this century?

and I reminded him that the first attack on the Trade Center happened under Clinton's watch, right after Poppy left office, but NOT ONCE did Clinton try to blame Bush, Sr.

That's when he brought up Monica.

31. Relax it gets easier the more you have to do it
I have a dumbshit relative that I have this same argument with on every family occasion (and we are a family that likes to have lots of occasions). Each time he tries to blame the locals, then congress, then clinton and finally all politicians (kind of lamely lumping boosh in with the others). He doesn't get sarcasm and I can say just about anything to him in return and he doesn't take it personally. So he forgets the conversation and we go through it again a week later. I used to go duck hunting with him and finally quit because I got tired of listening to the bullshit. He's married to my daughter and I can't avoid him completely so I am learning to live with it. Now it seems funny and predictable and it's getting hard to keep a straight face he's got the talking points down pat. Just don't make the same mistake I did and take it seriously.

20. Really fucking scary.......
I had the exact same conversation a few weeks ago, with almost exactly the same talking points. I was in the OR, i'm a doc, and everyone started to talk about Katrina and to my surprise started to defend Bush and Brown. Clinton came up and the x-ray tech spewed almost exactly the same crap about Bin Laden.

I lost it, and told everyone to "shut the fuck up, and if they didn't like it, get the fuck out of my room." At least the patient complied, he was asleep at the time. ;)

Arguing with conservatives has become a battle against the walking brain dead. It took me a week to calm down.

I went through the same experience with my brother. I decided to tactically cut-off ALL communications for about a month. Then, I mailed him a couple of books: "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" and "Confessions of an Economic Hitman".

We have a much different conversation, now.

Just my experience.

I do understand your frustration when being faced with this crap.

It's difficult, sometimes, to remember that ignorant people such as your correspondent are so oblivious that it's simply not worth arguing, and you end up feeling like you just HAVE to try, even though the odds of them realizing their own blind idiocy are damned slim.

Save yourself the aggro of taking up the argument again tomorrow. Those people never learn, never change their closed minds, and simply WILL NOT listen; even if they're looking right at the blue sky, they'll continue to insist that it's red, if that's what Rush Limpbag and Manne Coulter told them to believe.

the GALL, to send me this jerk ass right wing article debunking the movie.

I can't remember who wrote it - I think it was that weasel Rich Lowry.

That should have been my first clue.

I responded to him that I don't do right wing trash.

If I know an author is a biased liar from the start, there's no way I'm even going to bother to read anything he writes.

Today I did make the point that Michael Moore has not had to refute ONE FACT that he laid out in F 9/11.
