Question for non-U.S. DUer's! |
|
I was talking with a friend today about Bush's inability to even complete a sentence in English, and how that level of incompetence makes the US look in the eyes of the rest of the world.
I started thinking about that a little further, and I started thinking about the poor people who actually had to do the TRANSLATIONS of Bush's speeches into a different language.
I could just imagine Bush on the TV in a non English speaking nation, with scrolling "subtitle" translation script below going something like:
"we, as US people, must.... uh... unintelligible...uh... untranslatable.... Saddam....... untranslatable...... unintelligible..... uh... err... uh.... Iraq...path.. continue... untranslatable.... good... unintelligible.... "
So, just curious, if you live in a non-English speaking nation (not that Bush speaks "English"), are the translations as hilarious as I imagine them to be?

and I have seen and heard even major speeches in tranlsation. I suspect that the delay is longer than it used to be, but no.. they are not, and the translations are at times more bearable than the original

3. When it's a formal speech |
|
it's much easier...and usually sent to the translators before it's given.
Off the cuff remarks are harder...so it's more like a summation, after several stumbles.
