This is why I won't support moderate repukes like my rep Mike Castle |
|
Mike Castle (Del-At Large) is pretty moderate for a republican. He's pro-choice, pro-environment and has fought for many issues I hold dear to my heart. When federal funding for Stem Cell research came up again it was Mike Castle who was one of the leaders of the new bill.
But I'm reading about all of this mess with Hasert, Delay and now the new minority leader Roy Blunt and I question this - why the hell are the moderate republicans ganging up together and demanding that one of their own be given the open majority leader position. But instead they just lie down on the ground and let the neo-con uber-conservatives walk all over them.
A long time ago when I first started voting I swore I would vote for the best candidate and not necessarily along party lines. This was the reasoning behind me actually voting for Tom Ridge for governor one year (hey, the guy is pro-choice - pretty rare for PA politicians). But after the 2000 fiasco and years of observing the repuke leadership in DC, I realize that by voting for moderates like Mike Castle I'm also voting to keep crooks like Hasert, Delay and now Blunt in leadership positions. My vote would mean that I approve of the religious legislation that these repukes are trying to jam down my throat.
So if true republicans ever want to return their party to an organization that won't make Abe Lincoln turn in his grave, Moderates need to start taking back the leadership roles. And being that there are enough of them to make up the difference between the number of repukes vs democrats in congress, they need to threaten alignment with the democrats in order to win leadership roles in the republican party.
As long as these fundie nut job crooks are allowed to run congress our government will continue to be ineffectual.

1. I'm in DE too. I like all our reps and I think DE has been served |

well. What real difference is there between Castle and Carper other than the fact one can list themselves as a Dem and one can list themselves as Repub? When I spoke to Tom last weekend, he said he HATED DC politics and he thought alot of the problem was that you didn't get to know eachother or those on the other side of the aisle. If you did, it made it harder to backstab people and pull this partisan activity that's going on.
I don't feel either one of them has a strong enough personality to lead the charge. That being said, I do think they are good reps of Delaware and I think as long as they are in there DE doesn't have to worry about this totally corrupt partisan crap that other states are having to deal with. BUT it also means that DE won't be breaking rank anywhere much UNTIL we get honest people in leadership roles in DC. Like I told him, "In other words, if we moved DE politics to DC, we wouldn't be having these issues?" And in the words of Shrek talking about fairy tales - "Like that's gonna happen."
Biden is his own entity, plays well with others, but is rather pompous at times. But you have to admit he has more of the DC personality than the other two. Yes, I'm being polite.
