Ashley Smith to Oprah: Addicted to Meth
Smith to Oprah: Addicted to Meth

Web Editor: Michael King
Last Modified: 9/29/2005 8:03:33 AM
The woman who says she was held hostage by Fulton County Courthouse shooting suspect Brian Nichols admits she is a recovering drug addict.

Ashley Smith did so on national television when she appeared on “Oprah” Wednesday. She recalled the fateful night Nichols’ alleged deadly shooting rampage led him to her apartment in Gwinnett County.

She also admitted to being addicted to methamphetamine. Smith says, until that night, she was on the drug 24 hours a day.

Smith says Nichols asked her for marijuana, but she only had meth to offer.
“I told him that I didn't have any pot, and it just came out of my mouth. ‘I don't have any pot, but I do have ice,’ and immediately I thought ‘What have you just done? You have just offered the thing that has ruined your life and made you crazy to a killer’,” Smith said.

The mother of one said she did not do drugs with Nichols that night, and has not used drugs since.

Smith also said she had no plans to visit Nichols in prison.
Her book, "Unlikely Angel,” was released in bookstores Tuesday.

The whole time I am thinking, now THIS is a TRUE media whore. (no offense meant to women, I would call a man the same thing) Where are the same repukes who were calling Cindy a 'media whore' and a 'tradgedy slut?' HUH? Oh yea, Ashley Smith loves JAYSUS, so she is righteous in her intents...I say boycott her fucking book. F-her.

The poor woman who was on AFTER Ashley Smith is the one with a REAL story. She was raped and sodomized by her kidnapper and then she jumped out of a MOVING vehicle to escape him...She is the one who should be getting attention and a book deal, but she probably doesn't want it because she has some friggin class.

I am sick. :puke:

edited because I spelled like a freeper the first time.

sense, because she was running around alone at night. Of course her being a drug addict explains it. Purpose driven life, indeed.
:eyes:
I do hope that she is telling the truth about not using anymore.

Seriously - It takes a few months, but you do recover, unless you've been on it for years and years.

20. "...holes in the brain"
Thanks for spreading propaganda! The ONDCP thanks you! Holes in the brain? The only thing that's close are Olney's lesions, and the last time I checked they weren't associated with methamphetamine use, or any stimulant, for that matter. Next you'll post the "brain scan" that shows "reduced activity" in the brain of the "ecstacy user", right? Long-term meth use causes damage to dopaminergic neurons, and to a lesser degree, seratonigenic neurons. Holes in the brain? Give me a fucking break. That ranks up there with, "Marijuana kills brain cells," and "Seven hits of acid makes you legally insane."

Sorry if I sounded like an asshole. I just wish that people would quit believing the bullshit propaganda that the overzealous anti-drug crusaders spread as gospel truth.

They showed scans of normal brains and those of meth users...and there definitely was a significant difference...like empty spaces or whatever its called....but I know what I saw and it wasn't fucking normal.

6. So it wasn't her "Christianity" that worked that night, but meth.
After all of that Christian posturing we heard on the news for weeks after the incident, it turns out that he befriended her because she gave him drugs.

16. Sometimes, God works through really messed up people
Most of the time, really, as we are all pretty messed up.

I don't see how her being a meth addict prevents her from being used by God in this situation. What I see is a dangerous violent person on a rampage intersecting with a messed up young woman who wants to change her life and hasn't been able to. By doing what she felt God call her to do, she was able to help prevent any more killing by this guy and was inspired to change her life after her ordeal was over. This is the heart of what practicing true christianity is about-listening to the call of God in your heart, showing compassion to those who are in turmoil and pain even when it involves intense danger, and learning from your experiences.

Our actions can never limit God's grace, only our perception of it. Someone can drink or drug a lot and try a million things to ignore that grace, but that doesn't mean it isn't there.

21. Which is YOUR OPINION. Others do not share your opinion. Get over it.
Because you're going to have to deal with it the rest of your life. Billions of other people do not share your opinion. You cannot prove to them there is no God and they cannot prove to you there is. Merely saying there is, or is not a God does not make it so. Unless you have iron-clad provable evidence that God(s)do not exist in ANY form you merely have a difference of opinion. Deal.

You kind of 'doze' for a few hours. It's why people go crazy, lack of REM.

12. I didn't see the show, how did it come off?
Did Oprah ask her if she felt like a hypocrite, with the public story focusing on her religion convincing this man to give himself up when instead drugs were the "bond"?

Wonder what freeperville is saying about this.......
