GOP is one step from self-destruction...
They do not hide their ambitions. With Delay stepping down yesterday, we can only imagine the scratching and hair-pulling by the Republicans in the back room as they fought to keep Drier out of the position and to put Blount into Delay's job. They are greedy and ambitious to their bones.

The next step to self-destruction would be the indictment of Bill Frist. Who would take his place? Does Trent Lott step back into the vacuum? Many Republicans in the Senate now understand how Frist backstabbed Lott when he was being criticized for his remarks at Strom Thurmond's birthday bash. It was not the Democrats that forced Lott out, although they were critical of him, but it was Frist and some "ambitious" GOP leaders in the background.

We can only imagine the chaos that would follow an indictment of Frist. Who would pick up the pieces of the Greedy Old Party?

My bet is allard would give it his best shot. (this is a good thing considering allard is known for bits of wisdom like "we should bomb mecca after the next terrorist attack")

4. Wayne Allard (R-CO)
I have worked on just about every campaign against him since he took office. Stereotypical conservative douche from fiscal to foreign policy .

5. Lott's Got Too Much Baggage
His "kiss and tell book" got him in hot water with the fundies and wing nuts. His boasting of getting along with Clinton better than his assholiness doesn't sit well with the "circle the wagons" crowd in the Senate.

This could be an interesting battle cause of lack of strong discipline in the Senate as opposed to the House. You've got wildcards like McCain, Chaffee, Hagel, Graham and Specter vs. the nutcases like Imhoffe, Coburn, Craig, Hatch, Santorum and others...and neither side will want Helmethair. There was a rumor floating that he was going to retire anyway.

Frist all but killed himself with the fillibuster and then Bolton fiascos...then flipped on stem cell and now has this mess. We'll see just how deep the divide is when booosh tries to push his next SCOTUS nominee through. If it moves to confirmation quickly, then it's a clear signal the wingnuts are in charge.

8. If Rove and/or Libby are indicted...
..that will put the scandals directly INSIDE the WH...it will be at that precise moment that the GOP enters critical meltdown....then we get the release of the Abu Ghraib pictures, Frist gets indicted, and we sweep the fucking board in 2006. Impeachment proceedings will commence as first order of business for the new congress, and the destruction of the GOP will be complete.

I want these criminals so shamed, so badly battered and bruised by the revelations of their own actions that the there won't be a republican in the WH for the next 20 years.....

9. No, Lott lost his turn
In this highest of high-stakes power playing, you don't get second chances. Lott's finished, and he probably wouldn't be heart-broken if Frist joins him in the dog pound. Who would move up to Frist's position? I dunno, but there is no shortage of greedy, venial hacks itching for a chance to try for it.
