Haha, Someone in my office posted on the bulletin board
an article from the Opinion Journal (Wall Street Journal) placing the Katrina failure on the local and state government and not on FEMA. Should I put a yellow sticky on it saying that this is an opinion piece that is known for shilling for the republicans?

Blame Amid the Tragedy
Gov. Blanco and Mayor Nagin failed their constituents.

BY BOB WILLIAMS
Wednesday, September 7, 2005 12:01 a.m. EDT

As the devastation of Hurricane Katrina continues to shock and sadden the nation, the question on many lips is, Who is to blame for the inadequate response?

As a former state legislator who represented the legislative district most impacted by the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980, I can fully understand and empathize with the people and public officials over the loss of life and property.

Many in the media are turning their eyes toward the federal government, rather than considering the culpability of city and state officials. I am fully aware of the challenges of having a quick and responsive emergency response to a major disaster. And there is definitely a time for accountability; but what isn't fair is to dump on the federal officials and avoid those most responsible--local and state officials who failed to do their job as the first responders. The plain fact is, lives were needlessly lost in New Orleans due to the failure of Louisiana's governor, Kathleen Blanco, and the city's mayor, Ray Nagin.

1. Frankly I'd look up some of hte articles by
Joe Conason or Sidney Blumenthal or others and put them up right next to it.

Both have written about Bush's failings in this matter, and others have too.

I mean sure they were overwhelmed and there was no possibility they could have coped with what was being thrown at them but... wait.... uhh.....

10. Good question....
I'd be tarred, feathered, then drawn and quartered before being sent to the four corners of the globe if I put anything resembling a liberal opinion on our bulletin board.

16. I own my company (small) but never post anything political.
I don't want my employees to feel any more pressure in the work place than they already do. It also allows me to prohibit Christin proselytizing by employees - something I have stopped many times over the years.

11. I believe they think they can get away with it since it's from the
"upstanding" Wall Street Journal. They figure some of us don't know that their editorial staff and opinion pieces are republican shills. I am going to find an opinion piece from a moderate or liberal placing the blame on Bush and place it right next to it. Whomever put it there head will explode.

12. You could also put a banner strip along the top saying
"Government Propaganda Story #5647"
or

You could put the National Enquirer story about Bush drinking again next to it.

14. Find an article that shows George empowered FEMA before Katrina hit.
And the letter from Blanco that includes New Orleans in her request for aid. And where Brown says she didn't. And the ice comment. And how about the Department of Homeland Security being in charge of natural disasters?

That man, and to think I felt sorry for him. He is stupid, incompetent and mean spirited. :nuke:

It doesn't say, though, that FEMA had been empowered by George on the 27th.

"WASHINGTON (AP) - Former FEMA director Michael Brown was warned weeks before Hurricane Katrina hit that his agency’s backlogged computer systems could delay supplies and put personnel at risk during an emergency, according to an audit released Wednesday.

An internal review of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s information-sharing system shows it was overwhelmed during the 2004 hurricane season. The audit was released a day after Brown vehemently defended FEMA for the government’s dismal response to Katrina, instead blaming state and local officials for poor planning and chaos during the Aug. 29 storm and subsequent flooding.

The review by Homeland Security Department acting Inspector General Richard L. Skinner examined FEMA’s response to four major hurricanes and a tropical storm that hit Florida and the Gulf Coast in August and September 2004. It noted FEMA’s mission during disasters as rapid response and coordinating efforts among federal, state and local authorities.

“However, FEMA’s systems do not support effective or efficient coordination of deployment operations because there is no sharing of information,” the audit found. “Consequently, this created operational inefficiencies and hindered the delivery of essential disaster response and recovery services,” it said."

Although, the bullshit comment works for me as well. :)
