3. I wanna run screaming into the night
Turned on the computer this morning and the first thing I see is his weird face staring back at me. Almost enough to send me back under the covers!

I know that other Chief Justices have come from the outside, and were not nominated from within the court, but I really wonder if Scalia is doing a slow burn at this moment.

23. My money is on this scenario
I think Bush's ego got the better of him on this one--he wanted to "leave his mark" (I know, like he hasn't left a huge shit mark already) on history and went with someone certain to "breeze through." I'm convinced that someone 100 times worse than Roberts is hiding just around the corner...

Peace...

25. Hope......
isn't it pitiful when all we have is hope going for us? Hope and 50 cents will buy me a newspaper in the morning. In other words, hope is worth nothing. After reading some of his opinions (the ones we could see, the others that they kept hidden are the ones that REALLY worry me)it's quite clear upon which side of the fence he sits. He's just another Reich-wing robot without a decent bone in his body.

My guess is that * wanted a bigger fight and didn't get it, so now he doesn't know what to do. Maybe Roberts really has swung to the center, which would be unexpected, but hilarious.

It's absolutely embarassing to have a Chief Justice with as little experience as this guy. I'm not even going into his views.. his lack of experience is bad enough.

But when you have an unqualified president - what should we expect?

This country is screwed for the next 30 years or so. Ugh. I'm thinking it's time for me to beg Canada for citizenship. I could go the normal route but begging would probably expedite matters. Political asylum maybe? Couldn't hurt to ask.

Ya gotta depend on humor in times like these because that's about the only way to get through.

And you're definitely right about the bar being lowered. When I long for the gentler days of the Reagan era you know things are bad. I hated that guy with a passion but Dubya actually makes Reagan look good by comparison. Never thought I'd be saying those words but then again, I never thought we'd have a pResident that I hated even more than Reagan.

We all laughed because we all know it's true for all of us. That's how bad this asshole is.

45. Hah! Great minds think alike!
Yeah, back during the Reagan era it was unimaginable to think that anyone could possibly be worse than Ronnie. He was the Worst President Ever in my book but compared to Dubya he's a friggin' moderate. Dubya truly set a new standard for that title.

My favorite Maximum Rock'n'Roll issue is the commemorative "Punks Not Dead. Reagan Is!" They really did a great job with that issue. It's a classic. Talk about a trip down memory lane. ;)

28. that's ridiculous. just wondering why Maher would suggest he's gay?
Bill Maher is hilarious, I watch his show when I can, I didn't hear him talk about Roberts being gay... if so, don't know if he might assume the marriage is a "cover" and they are not intimate, so that would likely preclude kids via natural chldbirth, though there is always IVF, as friends of mine, a lesbian couple, have done twice.

analysis- not sure why you'd get defensive about it. I know people with families sometimes decide to live with a partner of the same sex- I have (another) friend with a kid who did just that. I was trying to find out WHY Maher as suggesting Roberts was gay since I guess I missed that show, like Maher and want to know what he was talking about. A light, breezy question not meant to attack or draw assumptions about anyone or anything.

40. Here's why..
Edited on Thu Sep-29-05 04:15 PM by SoCalDem
He's a relatively decent looking guy..who at FORTY-FIVE was a "confirmed bachelor" until he married ..The wife seems to have a "less than interested" attitude..

It's almost as if he "needed" the props of a "family" to continue his rise in the repube party..

A carefree bachelor in ones 20's & 30's is one thing, but for a republican rising star to be 40-something, good looking, educated, and financially well-off..and NOT MARRIED, goes against the republican values..

Of course nothing completes the "family" better than a few aryan children..

the wife was too old (or not able) to have them herself, so of course "miraculously" two cookie cutter little kids just appear on the scene.. (How many people have YOU known in your life who have gotten that lucky?)

The press tells us several times (and it's not refuted) that the children are from "latin america..'sure they are')...then others say they are irish..

The fact is..that adoption "SMELLS"..

and for the chief justice to have possibly engaged in buying black-market children, is a troublesome thing..

The 'details" of the adoption PROCESS could have been covered by closed session, and never "involved the children.. ...Of course the dem senators were too timid to ask.

the "family" seems thrown together....stage-managed...for effect..

the man we know virtually nothing about, who's served exactly three years in the Federal Court system, the theo-fascist with the Stepford glazed look in his eyes is now our Supreme Court Chief Justice. How did this country get so fucked up so quickly and how long will it take to undo the damage done? Half of our Democratic Party Senators voted FOR this Reich-wing robot without so much as a whimper. Our Party has failed us and our country has failed us.

I am wearily depressed as I look upon this Robert's ceremonial display.

36. One of the phoniest swearing-in ceremonies ever to disgrace the U.S.
Third in line after bush sworn in, in 2001 and 2005.

I think everybody is going to end up unhappy with Roberts as Chief Justice. This is so bizarre. The man has never even taken a deposition as a lawyer, for cryin' out loud. And we're supposed to believe that he'll be able to adequately question top-ranking attorneys who are trying cases critical to all the citizens of the U.S.

No more respect for the Supreme Court. Arms were twisted to get Roberts in, and this was rigged. Oh, and screw the Dems who voted for this corporatist sexist android.
