Governor Schwarzenegger well he did it

Today Governor Schwarzenegger made the wrong choice for California - and the nation - by vetoing the Civil Marriage and Religious Freedom Protection Act.

Together you wrote tens of thousands of letters and rallied to guarantee basic civil rights to everyone in California - and set the right example for the entire country. But Schwarzenegger has come down on the wrong side of history.

Despite this setback, now is not the time to give up hope. Now is the time to make sure our voices and values are heard all across the country.

It does not matter where you live. Click here to write a letter to the editor of your local paper today. Let your community know you supported the Civil Marriage and Religious Freedom Protection Act because it was right for California and for the United States.

http://www.demaction.org/dia/organizations/Angelides/pickMedia.jsp?letter_KEY=285

Around the country, California is known as a trendsetter and the Golden State could have set the trend for guaranteeing basic civil rights to all in society. Instead, Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed that plan.

Please help and get your voice out. This is a call for action. I relealize there is so much to do with what is going on today from every direction this BFEE is attempting to take more and more and put it in their pockets, so please take 5 mins and speak up now

15. In my county (one of the most cash-strapped in the state)
we had punch-card machines, as always. But get this: The recall vote was part of the state primary, and when I got my ballot it was non-partisan, so I was not allowed to vote as a Democrat and thus was not allowed to vote for any partisan race. (Not that Kerry needed my vote in the California Primary, but I was still deprived of my right to vote.)

I told a reporter who was doing an exit poll about it. His paper is pretty liberal and activist, so I figured maybe they'd look into it. (I heard a few other people say the same thing happened to them.) But nothing ever came of it.

I've since changed my voting status to "no party affiliation," btw.

18. Oh, I can't count the times I heard someone
boast that they 'got to vote for a star'. I warned every one of them that they would regret it. I can't wait until he is gone!

4. That's seriously weird
I'm in SF and I don't know a single person anywhere in the Bay Area that voted for him. Not one. Not even at my fairly conservative consulting firm. No one could figure out how he got elected, and we all suspected shenanigans.

7. Heard on TV
I heard that Schwarzenegger said this should be decided by the courts or the vote of the people.

Decided by the courts??? You mean decided by "activist judges"???

I thought the Repub argument was that activist judges are deciding issues that should be decided by the legislatures.

Did Arnie miss a memo?

9. Schwarzenegger is just delivering his lines when he says things like
that. The people already DID decide it, by electing the legislature that sent the bill to his desk.

God dammit, doesn't anyone in that state understand the legislative process? The last voice is the Court's.

What a bunch of assholes. Right now I despise all elected officials, every last god damned one of them, even the ones I am merely sweeping under this broad generalization. It's all about money and getting reelected, and if they think a decision will be unpopular, then fuck what's right.

In this, Schwarzenegger is just as much a puppet of the religious right as Bush is.

I am so mad I could just hit something. FUCK!

10. They'll just keep changing their rationale
as long as they can keep their jackboot on the neck of gays and lesbians, they don't care what lie they tell the public.

As long as it gets those good "christians" out to vote!

23. LOL!
I guess they're only "activist judges" when you don't get your way. Good grief. I think on the 60's pbs special earlier they used that term then too! Things never change with them.

I can't remember how many times I heard the "well, he's socially liberal" rationale for giving der Gropenfuhrer a shot. So much for that boneheaded notion.

His wife is a Kenedy, so he must be a liberal. I just laugh in their face. This clown has done everything in his power to just toe the line of the status quo. your right, So much for that boneheaded notion.

19. We did vote Davis in for a second term and ended up
with that asshole. My local station said that the California Supreme Court would probably be the one to decide the issue and most likely would veto the veto. I hope so.

Anyway, shouldn't we be recalling Arnold by now? He seems to have done a worse job than Davis on the same points Davis was recalled for.

20. I asked an internet friend from CA if he was worthy
of being re-elected because she voted for him and this is what she wrote: "From my veiw point, he's a liar and (blank)whipped by his wife."
Does anybody else think this way?
