Right vs. Left Talk Radio

I had a revelation today.

I was driving my pick-up truck, sipping my coffee and listening to the Stephanie Miller radio show. I almost spit my coffee out because I was laughing so hard. They were doing an imitation in *'s voice trying to say Nuclear Power Plants, but it was coming out..."Nookuler Power Pants". They kept repeating it, and the more they repeated, the funnier it got. I must say, that is a DAMN funny radio show.

Now, this got me thinking....have I ever ONCE laughed at anything said by a right wing radio host? The answer is no. Limbaugh? Nope. Savage? Nope. Hannity? Nope.

Politics aside, what is it with these right wing hosts? It's like they are programmed robots with no sense of humor or light-heartedness.

1. The rightwingnut radio...

... freaks know what appeals to the morans who listen to them. Anger.. hostility... shouting... hate... Just listen to them for awhile. All they have is anger and hate.

Rightwingwhores like Rush or Medved know that to raise listenership, they need to feed the hate, fear, and anger that's out there in radioland.

You find left-wing hosts funny because they are generally poking fun at right-wing politicians - just as those who lean to the right would find Rush or Hannity funny because they would generally poke fun at left-wing politicans.

I'm sure that if someone who leaned to the right listening to Stephanie Miller or Randi Rhodes they'd say the same thing you were saying, except about the left wing hosts.

the truth. That comedy is really about what is true. And that is why the right is rarely funny.

4. Parallel Universes

I know wingnuts who would tell you that Rushbo is hillarious...those shots at the Clintons and Feminazis and Howard Dean. Or how smart and clever Savage is. I've heard them. It's all perspective.

The game I used to play when there wasn't any Progressive Talk, would be to turn on Rushbo and replace words he said. For example replace Hillary with Pickles or Conservative with Democrat or George Soros with Rupert Murdoch...it turns everything he says totally around.

Just for kicks, take one of their website rants...a word replacement program and it can make for some very funny reading...especially when you email it to wingnut "friends" and get their spins.

is that right wingers used to say that left wing radio wouldn't succeed because liberals don't have a sense of humour. However, Air america has proven them sooooooo wrong. Randi, Mike Malloy, Sam Seder, Janeanne Garafolo, Marc Maron, Mike Papantonio and Rachel Maddow are hysterical as well as smart. There is nobody one on the other side that compare.
