Accounts of N.Orleans violence questioned
If this is a dupe, sorry!

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Reuters) - Horrific tales of murder, rape and gang violence emerged from the New Orleans Convention Center and Superdome where survivors from Hurricane Katrina took refuge from floods that devastated the city.

(snip)

But a month later officials said those stories seem to be exaggerated accounts derived from a chaotic situation, created by uncertainty and paranoia and then escalated by the media and New Orleans officials desperate for help.

Without electricity or basic supplies to sustain the tens of thousands of evacuees, conditions in the shelters soon spiraled out of control, with the Louisiana National Guard vastly outnumbered by those fleeing the floods.

I guess we'll never know what really happened down there, or how many people really died.

1. Yes we will as long as we continue to care and take time to investigate.
The Republicans expect us to throw up our hands and not stand up for those who lost everything they had.

2. They're cleansing the history, just like they're cleansing the body count
What was the last figure YOU heard? I mean, if you could, over the din of all the wealthy white guys getting their restaurants opened in order to make money off the Blackwell people and all the military and reporters?

5. You got that right. Rewriting history while we look the other way.

7. If not cleansing, they're burying the body count.
I saw this near the end of an AP article about the return of people to New Orleans:

Katrina's death toll in Louisiana rose to 932 on Friday, the state health department said, while Mississippi's toll climbed to 221 after a body was found under a collapsed motel.

3. The damage is done
The stories of "looting", rapes, and murder were blasted throughout the news for everyone to see.

The corrections to those stories will quietly appear on page B6 of the newspaper and as 8th billing on the evening news.

4. "we'll never know what really happened down there,
or how many people really died."

Sounds a lot like Hitler's Germany and/or Stalin's Russia, doesn't it. The same can be said for any fascist state. When your own government is hiding the facts from you, something is wrong! Wake the fuck up people.

6. We're AWAKE...but people like Obama keep hypnotizing us back to sleep
with their happy bullshit about getting along and not appearing too whiny. FUCK THAT. We're beyond whiney, we're beyond appeasement. If don't take the upper hand and take it quick, the whole country is fucked forever.
