He's the last of the true journalists. There's absolutely nobody out there that comes close.

he is part of an Inter-faith organization that really kicks those hypocritical religious righties in the butts.
Maybe this new movie, 'Good Night and Good Luck' will awaken the Press and get them to take their responsibilities seriously again.

True -- the electorate is undereducated and uninformed, and we ARE in danger of losing our democracy.

Walter Cronkite will be heard by the public and listened to by others in the media. I have been waiting for him to speak out about the state of our country. He is a very knowledgeable man about our country, its history, and foreign policy. I was afraid we might lose him before he decided to speak up.

I was transported back to a time when the news was the news and not an extension of Access Hollywood.
How I miss his voice!
He's absolutely correct, we are so dumbed down that most should not be allowed to vote for anyone running for any office.
How I wish he would do a documentary about this war and show these "youngins" how a real news man does it.

He saw it all in WW II and then worked w/ the best and saw it as a calling to report the facts to the best of his ability unlike soooooo many now.
BTW i think Walter would like to sit on the porch of the Summer House @ Gull Bay.

30. I used to have a friend who drank Carling's Black Label beer |
|
in cans.
I was over at his house one day with another friend who started giving him shit about always drinking such a "no class beer." So the next time we came by, he had printed out a bunch of photo of Walter Conkrite and wrapped one around each can of Black Label and taped it in place. Then he said, "OK, from now on we're drinking Cronkites, and you can't name me one beer in the world with more class than that."

29. He would surely never lack for an adoring audience there. |
|
Can you imagine listening to his stories and insights? This generation has no idea what it was to have a familiar news figure you felt you could trust to tell you what was really happening. His integrity was and is unquestioned.
Yes, he'd be a major hit at Gull Bay. Even stranded Norweigian skiiers could not begin to compere with that gentleman.

I saw him on the PBS sixties special and he was truly the best from everything I've read on him and all he's done. I wish we could have another Cronkite. I think Jennings could've been the next. God rest his soul.

Who did we watch when Kennedy was killed? Who did we watch when man first went into space and when man first walked on the moon? Who did we know we could trust to be honest and reliable? Walter Cronkite.

Words to that effect.
Saw it on one of the newschannels in the last few weeks.
Discussion was obviously about NOLA. Quote was shown on screen with appropriate attributes to Eric Severeid. Anybody familiar with the direct quote?
