*'s summer reading list is somewhat disturbing
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002441705_bushbooks16.html

"According to the White House, one of three books Bush chose to read on his five-week vacation is "Salt: A World History" by Mark Kurlansky, who chronicled the rise and fall of what once was considered the world's most strategic commodity.

The other two books he reportedly brought with him to Crawford are "Alexander II: The Last Great Tsar" by Edvard Radzinsky and "The Great Influenza: The Epic Story of the Deadliest Plague in History" by John Barry."

-"Salt: A World History": salt as an invaluable historic commodity may be compared to the current value of oil, according to some. OK,

-"Alexander II: The Last Great Tsar": Is the attraction of a book with "The Last Great Tsar" in its title really any mystery when Bush believes it's about HIM??

The third book in the list is the most disturbing: "The Great Influenza: The Epic Story of the Deadliest Plague in History". Why was this chosen for Shrubya's summer school reading list, when 'My Pet Goat' had already presented a serious challenge? Will Avian flu become the Black Plague of the coming decade, and if so, will it be treated seriously as a crisis by the Administration, or as simply another "you're doin' a heckuva job" stumble?

13. Frankly, I think the reason he looks like crap all the time is because
yes, he is drinking, but he is drinking because he knows something terrible, like the end is near or something. Maybe because of global warming, maybe because oil is almost gone, or maybe because he's been told this flu could wipe us out.

14. THat is a very "cherry-picked" reading list
And I call bullshit on him actually reading it. "Salt" is a mildly hot topic book these days, "The Last Csar", similar, and the Influenza thing, all to give him an appearance of an intellectual. I would love to have seen his summer reading list in 1999. ___________ nada.

The man is not intellectually curious, why would he read?

15. * stikes me as someone who gets bored reading rather quickly...
I don't think he has the interest to sit with a book unless it only has pictures.

He doesn't have the attention span of a gnat, but we're supposed to believe he's working his way through a book above the intellectual level of "My Pet Goat"?

18. I don't for one second believe he reads anything beyond a comic book
For one thing, he is not CURIOUS enough to want to learn anything.

This reading list is purely a Rove creation meant to make you think he is a person who can DIGEST a book beyond a middle school level.

21. Great Influenza is a fantastic book...
Fascinating account of the rise of modern medical science against a tumultuous period of world history. Highly recommended. I am not familiar with the other two books.

Oh yeah, and regardless of what is on his reading list, * is an idiot.
