The Democrats DO have an agenda and this is it |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 08:54 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
I believe there is a Democratic agenda, but it is not presented effectively to the American public. We have a great opportunity to swoop in right this second while everyone in the country is recoiling in horror from the corruption and screw-ups of the GOP.
I have come to realize that Republicans make politics personal - which is why they always attack the PERSON. Democrats like to make politics impersonal and discuss ISSUES. Which is easier for the general public to grasp and discuss at the water cooler - Swiftboats or Healthcare issues? Democrats need to learn to present issue discussions in a way that is personal and resonates with Joe Average.
I think a good Democratic Agenda would be - Your Tax Dollars Working for YOU. Yes, YOU!
You pay taxes anyway - shouldn't you get something for them? Shouldn't you have healthcare and shouldn't it be affordable? Shouldn't your kid be able to buy a house in your town? Shouldn't you be able to think about a safe retirement? Shouldn't your electric bill be affordable and not another car payment? Shouldn't you be able to afford to put gas in your car? Shouldn't your kid be able to go to college if they want to? Shouldn't we have waterways that don't produce 4 eyed, 5 legged frogs? Shouldn't we expect that FEMA could get a truckload of ice somewhere within a week? Shouldn't we have voting machines as reliable as the ATM at the 7/11? Shouldn't we expect that going to war is a last resort, based on sound intelligence? WTF America! Exactly what are YOU getting for the tax dollars you pay right this moment under the fiscally insane Republicans?
my new slogan:
Republicans get more for the taxes they DON'T pay then you get for the taxes you DO pay.

1. Far superior to having the single platform plank of buttkissing |

The time has come for justice, freedom, human rights and common sense to come back to America. Your last paragraph, edited for mass consumption, would make a nice LTTE.

2. I've used a similar approach at the water-cooler, I'd like to see the |

party adopt this and am a bit befuddled as to why they don't.
Everyone says they are worried about taxes, but who wastes far more of their tax dollars, the Democrats or the Republicans? Who offers them more value for that dollar? The Democrats will, provided they have the power.
This is an excellent personal approach--just discuss Social Security and people get the message.
C'mon, DNC interns lurking at DU--score some points and suggest this approach to the powers that be. It's very effective on a small scale--let's make it big.

I have found that a person can suggest national healthcare, by saying let it cover the broken bones, the heart attacks, the emergency's. Let your health insurance cover non life threatening. Then I say that the price of health insurance would drop. The nation would have a healthier work force. Most people who are scrared of national health care are scared of long lines and not being able to get care when they want it. It you suggest that the national would not need to do away with personal insurance, then they tend to go for it..

5. Universal healthcare, not national healthcare |
|
While I personally believe in a single payer system, probably most of America does not for the reasons you stated - they think they will be standing in dank corridors for 14 hours to get their blood pressure taken.
The issue with healthcare is that it be AFFORDABLE not National.
John Kerry's healthcare plan was simple and great in my opinion- allow any un-insured Americans to buy into the same plan that covers Congress. But again - he could have made it more personal. He should have said " A family of four could have the same coverage that I do for XX$$ a month."
