Can somebody with Lexis access answer this?
Back when the Clintons were under attack, one of the most common phrases you would hear from any pundit is "nobody is above the law." It got to the point where it sounded like a lake of squawking ducks or something.

Vince Bugliosi wrote in No Island of Sanity how utterly meaningless the talking point was, but they bleated it constantly because they thought it sounded good.

However, how that you have about a dozen (or more) GOP politicians in serious legal trouble, have we heard this EVER? I can't think of a case, but then I've stopped listening to most cable news.

1. "Nobody is above the law, not even Tom DeLay,"
(Democratic Representative Chris) Bell told me (Mary Lynn F. Jones) on Sept. 30 as the ethics committee was weighing whether to take further action on his complaint. "His conduct has raised numerous questions and those questions need to be answered."

I didn't use Lexis-Nexis but it was the only quote I found (in regards to Tom DeLay) that used that particular phrasing.

2. I found this one:
Freshman Rep. John Salazar, a Manassa Democrat, said Congress members are "servants of the people and should be held to the same standards as those we represent. This is evidence that our system of checks and balances is working in the best interests of the people. No one is above the law."

3. That's interesting
From the two samples we have, it seems that the phrase is now coming from the politicians, not the pundits. Of course they wouldn't have the same instant audience that Hannity & co. would have.
