Brazilians to vote on national gun ban - discussion on Wash. Journal

this morning.

I say more power to the Brazilians.

but most callers on c-span about wet their pants at the thought of a gun ban in the US

'however would they protect their families?' was a common plea. as if gun battles were going on in front yards all across the nation.

and they all shouted that the constitution practically commands americans to have guns. even after some callers said the constitution meant only to take up guns to protect the nation.

you'd of thought the guns were as precious as their penises.

it's the fearful racists who need their guns to give them the courage to carry out their racism.

I'm all for banning guns.

and a quick way to get rid of guns is to demolish bullet factories.

2. America's weak gun regulations show contempt for human life
No other advanced nation has these absurdly weak regulations.

5. gun control shows contempt for law abiding citizens
http://www.jpfo.org/GCA_68.htm

---------------------------------------------------------------------
GCA '68 puts your life at risk right now. You have a constitutional civil right to be armed in order to protect yourself, because under U.S law the police have no duty to protect the average person:

"There is no constitutional right to be protected by the state (or Federal) against being murdered by criminals or madmen. It is monstrous if the state fails to protect its residents against such predators but it does not violate the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, or, we suppose, any other provision of the Constitution. The Constitution is a charter of negative liberties: it tells the state (gov't) to let people alone; it does not require the federal government or the state to provide services, even so elementary a service as maintaining law and order"

(Bowers v. DeVito, U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, 686F.2d 616 <1982>).

14. Every single murderer on Earth was once a law-abiding citizen.
If guns had not been readily available to them, most would have probably stayed that way.

15. US gun owners so law abiding they kill more people than Al Queda
America's absurdly weak gun regs permit almost as many deaths from guns as there are from car accidents. Think how often we use cars and it becomes apparent the deadly nature of guns and the terror they cause.

20. Well...
What will you do if your family is being threatened? Try calling the Police if you are being attacked.

Are you practicing to be a good witness?...911 may not get there quick enough

22. 911 WILL NEVER GET THERE QUICK ENOUGH
If so much as ONE CENT is stolen, then 911 is not quick enough. If so much as a hair is fractured, then 911 isn't quick enough.

23. What would be your method of defense?
If you or your family is threatened.. Happens all the time.. I see it in the news?..

Criminals dont follow laws, thats why they are criminals.. If you decide that a gun ban is in order, then only criminals will have guns.

Drugs are illegal.Do drug addicts follow the law?

25. didn't you read my other postings?
I advocate gun rights. You may think that it's a little to extreme but I also advocate the repealing of the National Firearms Act of 1934 along with the Gun Control Act of 1968. I don't feel secure in that the government can have machine guns and other types of heavy weaponry and it's populace can't.

That the general populace can own NFA weapons. As a collector I too wish they were repealed. I paid a ridiculous amt of $$ for an 800.00 gun.

You dont use a collector piece for that..An M60s only practical purpose is at a gun range or in a safe..

They are pushing 30K on the collector market BTW....

4. the mark of a decent and well-ordered society...
... is that it maintains its peace in the presence of an armed citizenry. If your society cannot tolerate an armed citizenry, then your social structure is simply incapable of producing true peace and good order.

Gun control measures are typically attempts to make society safe for inequality and injustice.

I hope Brazilians will keep this in mind.

They have almost as few guns per capita as Japan. Then there are those evil Kiwis down there in New Zealand. What a bunch of hooey from the gun lobby. These gun worshippers will say anything.

13. My problems with gun control in Brazil are as follows...
First, the Brazilian police have had a long history of torturing political opponents and social activists. There are some high-crime areas of Brazil, and sometimes the cops have to get tough on some of the locals, but I'm opposed to torture on all grounds, even as a form of punishmment for a court conviction. And experience has shown us that societies that outlaw guns are more likely to oppress their citizenry than not.

Also, I refer you to the Amazon anti-logging activists who were murdered in Brazil by hitmen hired by lumber corporations to silence them forever. Deforestation of the Amazon and other South American rainforests is a serious matter, and I think activists have the right to prtect themselves with deadly force if their conscience allows.

Aside from that, I'd have to see more about what the gun ban entails. Are they talking about allowing only certain firearms for hunting, or are they discussing total confiscation, or what?

Don't these people understand how democracy works. You are supposed to kiss the ass of senators and representatives in the hope they will represent you.

Yes, I know america isn't a democracy. But we sure do like to pretend we are.

More power to them. So long as it does not contradict basic human rights, majority should decide these issues.
