Bill Bennett, wingnut bigotry, and good ole' American bigotry.
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 11:44 AM by Cyrano
You probably already know that Bill Bennett, (Mr. Morality -- except for gambling) said on his radio show: " ... you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."

He claimed that his comments were "taken out of context." I read it in context, but it doesn't help. The assumption of the statement is: black = crime.

Bennett is such a screaming asshole that he's not worth a moment's thought from anyone. However, his statement reflects the implicit racial bigotry among the wingnut fringe. And, unfortunately, it reflects the racial bigotry that still exists in mainstream America.

I live in southeast Florida (home of the hanging chad), and I've heard bigotry coming from the mouths of liberals. The use of the word "they" in referring to black people is bigotry. "We'd have to drive through 'that' section to get there" is bigotry. "They moved in down the block" is bigotry. An invalid with an aide who refers to "my girl" is bigotry. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Will this kind of shit ever end? Or are we all doomed to play out our differences in a dance of animosity and/or hatred forever.

We all know that Bill Bennett and his ilk are the slime of the earth. But what about the rest of us?

1. They assume wealthy white male christian conservative supremacy.
Because they've built a media machine that will cover for any stupid thing they say or do, the things they say and do will only get more stupid.

They walk off the edge of the cliff, blind to any feedback, telling themselves it's the most brilliant step they could possibly take.

The evil movement that calls itself conservative assumes wealthy white male christian supremacy, without even thinking.

They are always going on about others inferiority, and about how they are the most discriminated against group possible.

They play to such prejudices.

Others are welcome, so long as they're willing to kiss and worship wealthy white male christian butt.

Of course it's their own evil version of christianity they're talking
about.

2. And many, if not most, of these bigots profess to love Jesus and follow
his teachings.
