the only thing really on Bush's mind with his choices for the Supreme Court is that a panel full of Republican sycophants might somehow leverage an intervention that would ultimately keep his and Cheney's asses out of jail? I mean, the Supreme Court got him this job in the first place so wouldn't it make sense for him to figure they'll make sure the White House door doesn't smack him on his way out? Should the election rigging fail and a Democrat winds up with the Presidency a pardon might not be doable (or it still might - I don't have a terrific amount of faith in the Democratic leadership). The Supreme Court stacking could just be one more place to hedge his bets. * has demonstrated time and again that he doesn't give one shit for this nation or what kind of laws it has, as long as his pockets are stuffed with cash.
