HuffPo: Bush Had Senate Democratic Leadership Approve Miers !!! |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-03-05 07:40 PM by Lex
:wtf: Supreme Court choice of Harriet Miers apparently pre-approved by Democrats Posted: October 3, 2005 9:22 p.m. Eastern
President Bush today nominated a Texas lawyer who serves as White House counsel, Harriet Miers, to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court – a pick that apparently was pre-approved by Senate Democratic leadership.
In choosing Miers, Bush tapped a person who has never been a judge and therefore has no judicial record for opponents to criticize.
The Miers choice will likely be a disappointment to conservatives who hoped Bush would choose someone with a stronger "originalist" record.
"It looks like he flinched," commented Fox News analyst Bill Kristol. "It looks like a capitulation."

4. Don't buy it for a second. |

He has Reid fooled. That's the only reason that he'd do it.
Does anyone here honestly believe that Bush would check a candidate with Dems before nominating if he wasn't certain that the nominee would be as crackpot righty as possible when the time comes?

11. I had a conversation last week about |
|
World Net Daily. A 'friend' sent me an article by Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, full of racist blather. When I told him his racism was showing, his excuse was Peterson was an African American. I asked on DU about this source, and learned WND is a really rw source that is rarely accurate. So that's how I came to the conclusion HuffPost might try other sources.

8. What is Reid's position on abortion? |
|
Isn't he "pro-life" -- not sure, but I believe I have read this. If you know for sure, please clarify. I believe this is why he has been pushed to the forefront of the party -- to attract the moderate right, but I believe this is also why he will never be the "standard-bearer."
If Reid is "pro-life" it would have been a slick move for Bush* to run Miers by him.
I believe her nomination is pure political payback. I don't think it has too much to do with the abortion issue. Although, as a Catholic, she might be inclined to strike it down.
Because of her absolute loyalty to Bush*, I think however much time she serves she will vote in a way he would approve of on issues.
And, of course, the question remains, what exactly does Bush think about the abortion issue. I believe he is privately pro-choice, but has used the issue and to "bring along" the conservative right. Laura Bush was interviewed on this subject in early 2001. She said she was pro-choice, mentioned that Barbara was pro-choice, and when asked about her husband, said "I think he is too."
Following that remark, she was promptly cloistered by the Republican party for six months, and did not emerge from the corner until about June of that year. She has publicly never mentioned the subject again (that I am aware of).
