Let's be realists or, at least, work on our abacuses (abcusi?) |
|
The Republicans have the majority on the Senate. And there are always a few Democratic Senators who would join them.
They can vote for any candidate that they want and they can kill a filibuster.
So... I do not see the end of the world with Roberts. He replaces Rehnquist and as conservative as he was.
We don't know anything about Miers which means she cannot be any worse than other women's name mentioned like Edith Jones or the other barracudas.
So, let's ask her about her philosophy, let's conduct a full hearing, but let's accept her as the lesser of two evils.
We fully expected Clinton to appoint liberal judges and he did. We also had the pleasant surprise of Souter. And we should expect Bush to nominate conservative judges. So far, he did not come with rabid ones, even though he could have.
So let's concentrate on the real battles - spreading the word of what we stand for, recruiting candidates that can carry the message and let's take back Congress in 2006.
There may be two more opening in the Supreme Court before this decade is over.

1. Im not convinced there will be a rethug majority voting her in. |
|
This is a tough nut to crack .
I believe you may have it right if the GOP pushes her through, we are pretty much neutered. If they want her in bad enough they can vote down any filibuster....Ive been all over this one today. I cant get my brain to follow this one too far into the future.

2. The Senate Rethug loyalty is to Bush, though. |
|
They'll vote for her, even if it means pissing off their base.
