I think Miers is a trojan horse.... |
|
I'm willing to bet that she is sugar coated to look reasonably moderate, but that she's utterly neocon poison on a couple of central issues dear to Bush, like trampling the Bill of Rights in the name of fighting "terra," or rabid anti-choice. And I'll bet she follows Roberts' lead and declines to answer a lot of questions. I think Miers is the poison pill the neocons want to get onto the Court. Roberts was just insurance. Miers will turn out to be the neocon wet dream. Just a gut feeling, but that's my early call.

She will be approved. Even if all Dems voted no, she will pass. Dems would not risk a filibuster.

I know there's something up with these conservatives since she was nominated. And I know if a repug says one thing it's quite the opposite of what's true. So yeah something about her

you're completely speculating. It's just not really possible yet to figure out where this woman is coming from. Patience. The system will work, and we'll find out who she is. It sucks that the balance of power regarding confirmation lies with the moderate Republicans, but right now that's the scoreboard.
If she starts using RW code words, we'll know. Then we'll know what to do.

Actually, there was a good thread here earlier this evening. It summarized her pastor's thoughts on her nomination and how conservatives could view her. It showed her to be a major fundie. Bush clearly didn't want a fight. But he also clearly knows her opinions on things. She has been quoted as saying Bush is the smartest man she has ever known. Scary.

talking points to the Cons to say they don't like Miers so the Dems would not vote against her. Me thinks they complain too much! Rove is behind this for sure. :puke: Are we going to fall for this trap?

the Trojan Horse. On the other hand, some punkit on the radio says she's totally into detail and slow to make decisions. (I would say that means OCD which interferes with decision-making). The task at hand for all of us is to research the h*ll out of this situation--we need to know everything that has been printed about her to figure out what her issues and hot spots are. then we need to start blogging it, talking it, writing it--make everyone aware--and put the pressure on our Senators and Reps. They may not want to do things our way--but they may have to this time.

Another thread pointed out about the Valerie Wilson case and her saving his butt. I also think it could be a red herring type of case to make us look like obstructionists and to get Gonzalez in quickly. But maybe it's backfiring since "pro-family" groups aren't liking her either. I think it's probably more along the lines of the Wilson/Plame ordeal.

19. She used to be a Democrat |
|
according to Tavis Smiley.
That was many years ago of course, and Dems turned Pubs tend to be some of the most rabid of them.
Still, she believed strongly in pro-bono work - can you imagine a concept as foreign to Republicanism as that? And according to a lawyer who worked with her, I think she was on PBS NewsHour, Miers said during a case they were involved in something like 'this is what the law is for, to help people who have nowhere else to turn', or words to that effect.
She's no doubt a Repub, and one from the very center of the corruption of this highly corrupt, extremely right-wing administration. But I get a sense from her history that she's not a rabid ideologue. I'm waiting to hear her talk. That should tell the tale.

but you may be right. I heard she's at the extreme end of the "pro-life" movement. That's terrifying right there. I could deal w/ another Sandra Day O'Connor, but not this woman.
