Did anyone see Chuck Schumer on C-SPAN today? He said
that he thinks Bush has figured out that the religious radical right doesn't represent his republican party JUST LIKE THE FAR LEFT OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY DOESN'T REPRESENT HIS (SCHUMER'S) PARTY. :wtf: did THAT mean? It truly pissed me off because I consider MYSELF a far left Liberal, A TRUE LIBERAL. Schumer never struck me as a "moderate" Democrat. What the hell was he talking about if not the grassroots Liberals who have kept HIS party afloat? Is DU considered a "Far Left" wing of the Democratic Party? :( With talk like that, our party doesn't have a chance in hell of surviving. Did anyone else hear him? Did you catch that smartass remark? Did it piss you off too? I'm still pouting over it. :(

1. Notice that
He chose to give liberals the middle finger right after they made sure that he got re-elected?

6. That's a very good reason to give to the DNC, DFA & PDA.
They are supporting progressive alternatives to the old guard.

7. Ah yes this is why the Greens are sounding better and better
every day....

Step into my time travelluing machine and take a nice trip back history... and to that fun time of the 1870s and 1880s... ah yes the rise of teh guilded Age adn the Corporatist class, and a third party taht actually threatened the power structure... to the point that by 1900 the Democrats adopted their liberal platform. You all may be familiar with the broad strokes of this platform, better known as the New Deal... and methinks this is time.

10. Uncecessary, insulting remark. He included people in the party!!!!
"the far left of the DEMOCRATIC party."

I am OUTRAGED at his self-presumed moral/social superiority! As if he defines "good" or "acceptable" Democrat. I really want to say something here, but I try to shy away from profanity in GD.

Absolute bullshit.

Uncecessary & insulting. He included people in the party!!!!!!!

"far left of the Democratic party."

He should be forced to define "far left of of the Democratic party."

Who's out there Chuck, on the fringe, where you can call them out as a problem and an embarrassment?

What do you mean by "far left of the Democratic Party?" Examples please. And tell me how they're (we're?) just messing things up.

11. It annoyed me a little, too
However, I thought what he said was that the far right doesn't represent America just as the far left doesn't represent America. That isn't quite the same as him saying the far left doesn't represent the Dem party. (He may have said what you noted as well, though, and I just missed it.) I did find it a bit odd that Schumer seemed to be distancing himself from the left-wing since I have always considered him a pretty good liberal for the most part.

13. But the key words are "far left" and WTF does he consider "far left?"
THAT is the issue here. I think he was referring to the Progressive wing of the party. He certainly couldn't have been referring to the DLC wing of the party, right? :grr: What's "far left?" That's what I want to know. :(

15. I belong to the common sense wing of the Dem. Party
Common sense being that it is civilized to want peace, not want a public official to support a lie, not want this country to become a third world country.

It's obvious that Schumer and us are not in the same wing of the Democratic Party. Schumer wants war, he wants to support a lie, and he has no qualms about turning this country into a third world country...if it's not there already.

19. His remarks shouldn't...
...surprise. He's answerable, first and foremost, to the corporate and special interests that bankroll him. That's not us.

16. There is a huge thread about this and it became sad..
We were tearing each other apart. My thoughts - Chuck says he wants to distance himself from the extreme left wing and lots of hurt
feeling were expressed today.

Now, the extreme right wing of the party. The Vice President took
the time to go on the Limbaugh show today in order to contain and
coddle the extreme right, who are upset about Harriet. I guess he
does not want to distance himself.

Two politicians, two viewpoints.

I guess Chuck and Dick just do politics differently.

17. People, this is inconsequential verbal jujitsu -
Schumer is no DLCer, he's on our side. He's just trying to triangulate himself into the supposed "mainstream" - before he makes Miers, ahem, his "bitch".

When DU is crucifying Schumer, of all people, it's time for the traditional "The Revolution Devours Its Children" Goya post!
