"...we mutually pledge to each other...and our sacred Honour"
"We...solemly publish and declare, that these United colonies
are, and of Right ought to be FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES...And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honour."

The Declaration of Independence
In Congress, July 4, 1776

What strikes me is the phrase "...and our sacred Honour." I wonder what it means to make a pledge on your "sacred Honour"? What would the equivalent be in our times? Is there an equivalent in our times? More importantly, I wonder what it means when people who took an Oath, a sacred Oath, a Holy Oath to serve America and Americans desecrate that Oath and by doing so the "sacred Honour" of our collective ancestors?

1. It's called "sacred Honour"
I don't believe it is a trendy type thing that goes out of style.

Just because someone pledges his honor do not assume he is honorable.

In their time, the framers of our country were indeed honorable men. They not only believed certain things and spoke about them, but they attempted to frame their very lives around those things.

IMO, many of today's politicans are quite happy with only talking the talk. What our nation needs is a person who is willing to walk the walk.

4. In a "Culture of Corruption" there is no sacred honour...and the
sacred honour of the good and true patriots is desecrated.
