Miers ties to Bush include August 6, 2001

WASHINGTON - Among a host of qualities that White House counsel Harriet Ellan Miers shares with new Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts is the apparent lack of any personal legal agenda. Known for an exacting, no-nonsense style, Miers — like Roberts — tends to avoid the limelight.

Once described by White House chief of staff Andrew Card as “one of the favorite people in the White House,” Miers has been there for President Bush at every turn for more than a decade.

Every turn indeed. "Who's Bin Laden?"

1. All we need to know about her is right here.
“She never seeks the limelight,” Spellings told Business Week. “She’s just extremely devoted to the president.”

Miers reveals little of her own emotions or ideological persuasions, but has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Bush administration on a broad of initiatives including tax cuts, Social Security reforms, restrictions on federal spending on embryonic stem cell research, national security, education reforms and fighting terrorism.

In hosting an “Ask the White House” interactive forum on the Web before the 2004 elections, Miers lavished praise on a litany of Bush administration initiatives, then added, “I could go on and on.”

2. 8-6-01...wasn't that the day of the ignored PDB on bin Laden???
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 01:17 AM by AllyCat
---snip---

...and followed him to Washington to serve as staff secretary, the person who controls every piece of paper that crosses the president’s desk.

---snip---

Wouldn't that be great if she was SC justice (they'll confirm her, you know it) and when BushCo finally gets indicted on all this mess with 9/11, etc...she and Roberts get pulled off the Court and taken to jail? Wouldn't I like to see that!!!

Then our next rational President appoints two qualified and rational judges to the SC and we all live happily ever after (if Bush*'s policies haven't killed us yet).

5. Could that happen though?
Why would they be pulled off? I still wonder about those papers with Roberts and yes that picture is from the day he recieved the memo. Probably reading it right there. Moore shows it in his movie. I'll have to go back and see if she's in that photo too.

Great...this is like a really bad nightmare that just keeps getting worse.

Is incompetence a requirement and career booster in this administration?

35. I know that people who originally "bought" the "official" story of F911
are now starting to ask questions....I saw a friend recently who said she had heard something about WTC7 and wondered why that had never made the "news" and still doesnt.

My husband and I lost 5 friends in the WTC and not one of their families believes this administration and feels even more so now that there is much that they haven't been told by the Gov't - deliberately.

I can't wait to ask my friends families what they think about this picture of Harriet Miers handing the PDB to Dubya. I'm sure that won't give them any more confidence...

Meanwhile, I've been swamped with the usual day to day life of being a stay at home mom and school starting, but the last month has been difficult. After Katrina hit, I went into a deep funk because I was in such pain, disgust and outrage at watching what the administration did and didn't do and all those people dieing

I will forever have the image burned in my memory of GW eating cake w/ McCain, playing the guitar and golfing and at fundraisers while people died and then ofcourse peaking through window of AF1 to see the death and destruction below. :grr:

I'm trying to stay centered but go often between calmness to outrage to being numb....I know in my inner gut and my sensitive intuition that things are going to be getting really bad in the coming months. So many of us on the DU have been talking about this for years and I think we are now getting to that point we were all concerned about. I hope I'm wrong...but I feel it coming....what, I'm not sure and in what form, I'm not sure. But seeing this nomination of Miers just made me beyond sick. W's packing the Supremes' with his team...

How about you? I hope you and your friends and family are well...

12. Oi Swamp Rodent!

You doing ok?

I just got on to the DU and am sitting here in just utter amazement as I read about Harriet Miers....when it was announced this morning and I heard she was dim son's personal attorney, my jaw dropped and my stomach filled w/ acid....I just kept thinking to myself that the nepotism and the sheer arrogance of these people is unreal. But even worse, I am really disgusted and truly frightened about what the "real" reasons for these nominations are and that there is a much bigger plan behind all this....

I also saw another thread that mentions the "missing" of New Orleans...over 10K... You know, I know and others at DU and across this country know that they aren't "missing"...they are dead...and a really creepy thought hit me the other day about the "missing" children...are they "really" missing? Or does "someone" know exactly where they are.....:eyes:

15. There are a lot more than 10k dead.
We have many many many undocumented Latinos in New Orleans, and many more in the lower parishes that didn't leave - entire families washed out to sea... all the Islenos and Cajuns...

As for Frau Harriet Miers, it doesn't surprise me Bushler would resort to this. He knows what's coming down the pike - indictments and big time confessions. The thing that worries me is he might just go all out, remove the mask and just start killing people. Sounds crazy? I hope that's all it is: crazy talk. Then again, I'm from New Orleans so it makes complete sense to me.

17. Don't read the book "It can't happen here" by Sinclair Lewis - I just
finished it while up in Yosemite last week and it gave me the creeps...to think that book was written in 1935 and to think of what is happening now....

I believe that with the Delay indictments, the indictments coming from the Plame investigation, and ofcourse the numerous other failures that are starting to no longer be hidden from the public eye, that yes, he just isn't going to "play the role" anymore. And, if as many of us have suspected for a very long time that the ole dry drunk has been doing a lot more than just reminiscing of the good ole days and actually taken to drink or snort again, then we really all should be very worried indeed. I think that his choice of Miers is deliberate. I think that he needs to make sure the SCOTUS is as favorable as it can be for when the shit comes down on them.... I have a really bad feeling about her. And seeing in this thread the photo of her at the ranch on August 6th, 2001 and knowing that she knows all the shit that has gone down, makes me realize that she is truly an "insider"....

Regarding all the dead of New Orleans....May their souls find peace but let them haunt and seek their revenge thru eternity on the Bush Cabal. :grr:

What if Bushler is on some kind of government issue meth, like Adolf?

Fascinating stuff...showing how Hitler "morphed" and talking about his drug use, I mean the Vita-malt shots that Dr. Merkel gave him....

I swear, if Bush is doing drugs again, then we are all doomed....the guy was dangerous enough already, but with drugs? :scared:

Here's an interesting view at Slingshot:

http://www.slingshot.org/?p=134

The Commander In Chief’s Supreme Court
October 4, 2005 - 12:00 am

I’m going out on a limb: the entire White House case for Miers is going to be “War on Terror.” After a half-dozen half-finished posts trying to figure out what’s going on with this nomination, that’s my best guess. Bush gets to talk about the war, and Rove et al. think that helps him. Consider:

Alexander Bolton, The Hill:

Ken Mehlman, chairman of the Republican National Committee, yesterday held a conference call with conservative leaders to address their concerns about Miers. He stressed Bush’s close relationship with Miers and the need to confirm a justice who will not interfere with the administration’s management of the war on terrorism, according to a person who attended the teleconference.

Mehlman yesterday unveiled a politically powerful argument linking Bush’s nomination to the war on terrorism. He said that as a former White House counsel Miers would know the importance of not letting the courts or the legislative branch “micromanage” the war on terrorism.
