2. This is not unusual . . .

.
This is not unusual . . . corporations try to get high muck-a-mucks on their boards, committees, etc., in order to pump up their own prestige. After all, Harriet E. Miers was at that time a corporate attorney and co-managing partner in one of Texas' most well-known and prestigious corporate law firms. Therefore, it does not surprise that "Lexis-Nexis" would want her to enhance its position by getting Miers on its Martindale-Hubbell/LEXIS-NEXIS Legal Advisory Board.

FYI, it's not "Lexis-Nexis," instead it's "Martindale-Hubbell/LEXIS-NEXIS" which is a subsidiary of Reed Elsevier Inc. Lexis-Nexis is a division within Reed Elsevier Inc. of which the staid and old Martindale-Hubbell Legal Law Directory has become a part. Names change as does ownership.
