First Thoughts on Miers

The Senate's duty to advise and consent must not be a leap of faith

I know there is a lot of "confirmation fatigue" after the Roberts vote, but we must remain vigilant in protecting our precious rights. My initial reaction is that we need to learn a great deal about Ms. Miers before she can be confirmed. While the Senate confirmed Judge Roberts with virtually no background information, the Senate's obligation is even greater now to exercise its independent judgment and inquire about the record and views of the latest nominee to fill O'Connor's critical swing seat.

By and large, Miers has not been a public figure. I believe the only way to be certain that she will be a fair and partial justice is for the Senate and the American people to have full and complete access to documents that will shed lights on how she will consider the critical constitutional issues facing our nation. This will be a tough, uphill struggle, but the stakes are so high, we must stick together and do our best.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

"...I believe the only way to be certain that she will be a fair and partial justice is for the Senate and the American people to have full and complete access to documents that will shed lights on how she will consider the critical constitutional issues facing our nation...." Unfortunately, the largest portion of these documents are from her tenure to counsel to * and are protected by client/attorney priviledge. Miers is the perfect pick, another stroke of political genious by KKKarl Rove.

1. And the last go-round with Roberts established a Q&A template--
If probing questions of interest don't get answered then all you get is another "leap of Faith". Yeah, "Faith" is sure as hell leaping into our governement these days thanks to the Republican majority abetted by Delay and his ilk. Do we REALLY need more Texan Bush leaguers installed anywhere?!

2. What has John Conyers done to piss off DU?

I really don't understand the lack of support for posts containing information from John Conyers.

Rep. Conyers has been at the forefront of the most important issues facing us today:

ELECTION FRAUD

ROVEGATE

DOWNING STREET MEMO

MEDIA REFORM

FLOODGATE

THE WAR ON IRAQ.

Hello?

3. Conyers' is Spot On (as Usual)
I'm glad to be made aware of this post - i am convinced that Miers (like Roberts) was nominated for no other reason other than to PROTECT the Bush Crime Family and the WH Neo-Con's / PNAC crew from future prosecution of high crimes and TREASON against this country and our constitution.

That's my take on it. and I'm sticking by it.

Unfortunately, the dems in Washington either don't have a clue or are as up to their ears in war profiteering and other types of quid pro quo's that obfuscates and circumvents accountability, transparency and JUSTICE for the American People and the Constitution.

I'm please and am inspired with a bit of hope that there are a few in congress with SPINE and PRINCIPLE, but i'm afraid NOTHING will get the attention of Congress short of a GENERAL STRIKE.

I think we have to call for a GENERAL STRIKE in this month of October - if there is to be a hope and a prayer to begin the process of taking back our country.

I like and would support it.

4. If nominated by a Democrat President, the duty of the Senate
is to obstruct at every possible opportunity. If nominated by a Republican President, the duty of the Senate is to rubberstamp with no questions asked.

What else is there to know?
