Has Sandra Day O'Conner officially retired?
I've had tests in school for weeks...and with all the rest of the excitement, haven't kept up with anything.

Is she actually gone yet?

2. No. She will remain on the court
until hear successor has been approved by the Senate and sworn in as an associate justice.

3. No,
She's staying on the court till Miers gets approved, although I think her power is limited somehow.

8. Re: "Her power is limited somehow"
According to a piece on NPR yesterday, any votes she casts between now and her retirement will only be counted IF the Court's decision is announced while she's still on the bench. Any votes she makes in a case where the decision isn't announced 'til after she steps down will be voided. They figure that she'll probably be tapped to write many of the Majority opinions for the early cases, as she has a reputation as a "fast writer".

4. No.
The stipulation was once her successor was confirmed.

7. again, thanks!
I have not agreed with SDO on the issues, but I have respected her (right to the point where she made her comment about not retiring if Gore won--then not recusing herself)---but, I sure respect her more than this new clown.

I can't believe that she would retire and hand her position to a woman with no experience.

9. YES Resigned. EFFECTIVE at Confirmation of Replacement. NO Not Gone
As for her handing over to a nobody, I don't think she would know who the Idiot Son would pick. And, well, *I* don't respect her.
